NFC South blogger Pat Yasinskas has an interesting blog post concerning Carolina Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams.

It seems Williams, who shares carries with Jonathan Stewart, is cool with getting fewer touches to prolong his career.

"I think the front office and coaching staff are single-handedly prolonging my career and [Stewart's] career,'' Williams said. "Thirty is like the new 50 in the NFL, especially when it comes to tailbacks."

Which brings us to Cowboys running back Marion Barber.

Barber has slowed down since he became the full-time starter in 2008. His physical way of attacking defenders might lead him to start breaking down. He turns 27 in June. He's missed time with toe and knee injuries and played with a busted hand for the bulk of 2009.

The Cowboys want Felix Jones to have an increased workload in 2010. This could mean several things for Barber:

* He could get upset and sulk.

* He could thrive in the role and produce solid numbers like he did in 2007.

* He might lose his starting job if Jones excels.

Barber is still young enough to become a productive back in the NFL. Yet his breakdowns the last two seasons raise questions about his ability to remain the starter.

If 30 is the new 50, like Williams says, expect the 27-year-old Barber to thrive this year.

He needs to re-structure his contract after this year if he wants to stay in Dallas, regardless of what kind of season he has.

regardless?

This is the kind of nonsense from fans that drives me crazy.

He doesn't have to do jack, it's not your money and thank god for that.

If Barber is still around by next season he needs to be put back in the role he had prior to the 08 season. Another year of injuries and ineffectiveness late in the season will lead to his release because I can't see anyone trading for him if the same pattern continues for a 3rd straight season.

Tip toe barber needs to be shown the door and hand the ball to TC.

Regardless? So if he has a 2000 yard, 20 TD season he still needs to restructure his contract.

Yes, your response was irrational and not thought out. That's what he was alluding to.

Ever heard of hyperbole? Exaggeration? An hypothetical? Analogies?

Do any of these things make sense to you? Do you know how to follow a series of statements and responses in order to get the right context?

LMAO @ irrational. I would hope someone would understand the potential of Barber next year. Speaking of being irrational, you used a terrible example. When I said "regardless," I would hope the TRUE Cowboy fans would know what a peak year for Barber is, and that is not 20 TD's and 2,000 yards.

Lets say Barber had a year like he did in 2007, I would still ask him to re-structure because he would still not be warranting a #1 RB contract.

If you don't agree with something I say, there's no reason to take a personal shot at someone about how he's glad it's not my money or something like that. It's a football forum, and I'm allowed to give my opinion without bashing any members; and speaking of bashing, it's something "Four" is pretty dang good at.

is this a real post?

Yes...unfortunately it is. Barber will flourish in whatever his shared role is. No need to boot him anywhere.

I really hope that they reduce his carries and give the bulk load to Choice and Jones and allow Barber to go back to the closer he was. Fewer carries but better production.

I hope that Roy and Barber come back and show us something this year. Then maybe some of the fans won't be so hasty to kick them to the curb.

Echo this. It is mind numbingly redundant whining.

Is it so wrong to demand production out of people getting paid big bucks?

It's usually the people on the bottom whining about what the people on the top are making, without knowing anything about what the job entails.

No it isn't. But on the other hand, people need to stop thinking that all they are trying to do is get a big pay day, and then go into cruise control. I'm sure they know they haven't produced. Roy himself said he would be out of here if he had another year like 2009. Stop thinking they are laughing all the way to the bank, cashing checks they didn't earn. And if you are going to say they should take a pay cut, ask yourself this. If you have a bad day at work, do you give back some of your paycheck?

If it was limited to demanding production that would be great. It isn't though. All business sense has to be thrown out the window too. It's like no one understands that there are ramifications to every transaction.
