Monday is the official day when the Cowboys begin their voluntary workouts at Valley Ranch. However, several players have showed up during the last two weeks to get an early start to the season.
Wade Phillips said as many as 27 to 30 players showed up last week to work out. This week, he was getting reports that players such as Tony Romo, DeMarcus Ware and Bradie James were lifting and running.
There has always been a perception that Romo doesn't work out enough. Every few weeks, there's video surfacing of him playing basketball, golf or soccer somewhere.
"You can count on him anytime," Phillips said of Romo. "You can count on him during the season, count on him as a player. I don’t think he's missed a workout since I've been here."
However, other players do the same thing. If you see Miles Austin at a basketball game, does that mean he's not working out somewhere. If you run into Ken Hamlin going to the store, does that mean he's sitting at home getting fat?
It doesn't. The Cowboys have always been a well-conditioned team -- under Bill Parcells and now with Phillips.
"We have a great group that way overall," Phillips said. "We have a lot of good workers, [and] yeah I see them doing that going forward."
