Cowboys running back Darren McFadden will have to pay his own way to California.

McFadden missed the team charter Saturday afternoon, according to David Moore of the Dallas Morning News. He called team officials to tell them he was running late and won’t face a fine as long as he arrives by 2 p.m. PT Sunday when players are required to arrive.

McFadden, though, will have to buy a commercial flight to Southern California.

Cornerback Orlando Scandrick, defensive lineman David Irving and rookie cornerback Jourdan Lewis also weren’t on the team charter.

Scandrick, who lives in L.A. in the offseason, flew back to California on a commercial flight Friday after flying into DFW for a physical and a conditioning test earlier in the day.

Irving failed to report to The Star and faces a $40,000 fine for an unexcused absence, but he (Irving) is in California.

What's up with all these renegades doing their own thing? Is it really too much to ask to expect them to be at a certain place at a certain time?
The kids gloves with which these players seem to be handled needs to come off.

But the real question is who chose the fish over the steak for dinner? Which of these guys are eating their own snacks rather than the ones the team provided? Those are the hard hitting takes I need to know.

This has been a very annoying offseason.

A lot of this stuff isn't a big deal but it kind of paints a picture as to what the players mindset is headed into the season.

I'm expecting a down year based on everything I've seen. I hope I'm wrong but the players just seem like they invested a lot last year and this year they aren't ready to commit.

Of course I hope I'm wrong. We deserve better as fans because our emotions have been put through the ringer with this club.

Down year for things not seen on the field? Wow.

Yep -- they appear to have a strong sense of being allowed to do as they please. The Cowboys have obviously been much too forgiving in the past for them to believe they can get away with this stuff. Perhaps it's way past time to relegate 'em to the bench for awhile and double their fines.

With that being the case, it looks like this year is heading for a down cycle.

I'm not liking these red flags at all -- high time for the FO to kick some butt.
"I don't give a crap" attitudes are becoming way to commonplace.

This is definitely not a Jimmy Johnson crafted team. Jimmy would have kicked butt and taken names. There is way too much
lax commitment to this team and team goals by some of these players. Time to take out the trash and determine who are the
new treasures.

Agreed. Lax discipline invites lax commitment. It's no wonder why so many of these guys get a sense of entitlement. G-r-r!

Attitude is perception...Perception is often reality.

So Zeke, Carroll, and Wilson most likely being suspended for some games to start the season, is the perception that we will have a down season on the field. The reality is we can still be successful for the entire season because of the overall depth we have. Saying we won't isn't my reality or I'm sure Garrett and the team.

Maybe so but for me, the players will be obliged to prove their commitment for it to become a reality. Right now, the signs aren't encouraging. Too many players are missing their fitness tests, getting into trouble, missing their flights and generally being altogether too irresponsible.

I certainly haven't given up entirely on this team having a successful season but the red flags are most assuredly becoming a persistent cause for concern. Through it all, I still remain a prayerful fan, however. Here's hoping they'll straighten up and fly right very soon.

Well if they want to get paid during the season, they will commit to practice and playing in games. Until I see reports that players aren't practicing hard or doing what Garrett wants in practice for the real games.
