Thank you. Tried to start a thread on this but for some reason cannot start threads... Weird.

Perfectly legal, perfectly clean hit. Did not understand the call at all. Had no bearing on the game. Just another annoyance.

I also tried to start a thread about this but was unable to. I don't know what's going on.

I thought it was a legal play myself. If he doesn't hit him the player is free to down the ball and pin us back against the goalline.

Sure it was a legal play.

The ref literally made it up, as there is no such thing as hitting too hard legally.

To me that's why every play should be challengeable. I know it may make the games a little longer, but enough of this incompetence...

Good God. The amount of commercials they'd stuff into that process.........

Next time Harris gets hit "too hard" while he's making a catch on a punt, he should run over to the ref and ask for a flag for unnecessary roughness.

And Sean Lee can show them the tape of him being blindsided and speared (which is illegal) by Seattle WR Golden Tate in 2012.

This is a rule that could apply..

Article 8 There shall be no unnecessary roughness. This shall include, but will not be limited to:

...
(e) unnecessarily running, diving into, cutting, or throwing the body against or on a player who (i) is out of
the play or (ii) should not have reasonably anticipated such contact by an opponent, before or after
the ball is dead...

It's the crap rules guys. The game has been going this way for awhile

The player did not anticipate contact. But that's not the rule. Live ball. He should have his head on a swivel

Unnecessarily throwing the body against a player who should not have reasonably anticipated such contact by an opponent before or after the ball is dead...

It could apply for anything.. this is football.. The rule shouldn't have been enforced, but the rules are what they are.

You've got it wrong.

A punter who is 30 yards from a play or Qb who is not pursuing a defensive play after a pick should not anticipate contact. A guy downing a live ball should. It is a bad call

I loved it. My favorite play of the game.

If Golden Tate didn't get penalized for blindsiding Sean Lee, I don't see how this is any different.

I have it wrong? I copied and pasted a rule. If you don't like the rule, that's fine but it can be applied to almost anything. It's a bad rule.

No, it can't. There is no interpretation that suggests a guy who is going after a live ball should not anticipate contact. It is only applicable to any situation if you ignore the context in which the contact occurs

The key word is "reasonably" anticipate contact. This makes it completely subjective and open to all kinds of interpretation. Like we saw yesterday. I doubt the refs are reprimanded for that. If you don't like the way the game is going, which I dont, point the finger at the rules and how they're enforced. Not just the refs.

In today's game, anything deemed to be unnecessary will be called. Been that way for awhile.

You take a play like that and then go back and watch the Philly DB's literally holding the arms of Dez on several plays without any penalties being called and you wonder how they decide to call penalties.....is it just whenever they decide to?

Only a fool would interpret the rule that way. I can see a ref in a split second making a bad call but to interpret as you are is a reach

Most refs would've called that. There's no doubt in my mind. That's the way they are calling games now.

ARLINGTON, Texas -- The NFL has attempted to make the game safer by protecting players from unnecessary hits. Sometimes, however, it seems the game has changed too much. Take Dwayne Harris' unnecessary roughness penalty in the fourth quarter on a punt return. Instead of allowing Nolan Carroll II the chance to down the kick deep in Dallas territory, Harris blocked him and a scuffle ensued between the two teams. Here’s Jason Garrett’s explanation: “My understanding of the rule is that if you don’t have a fair-catch signal, you can hit the guy.

And what about CB's with their hands all over Dez 30 yards downfield?

If we're going to hit someone to draw a flag on ST in the rematch then let it be at Sproles expense.

I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure Harris has been the victim of the exact same play with no call

And the gutless DFW media (I'm looking at you Norm and Donavan) called it a cheap shot.....guess that what happens when a guy from Buffalo and a Randall Cunningham fan do a Cowboy post game show....Sorry I got a little off topic
