Jason Garrett raving about Marc Columbo's assistance with prep last week for the Lions. Another find by the great Parcells!

I shudder to think what '03-'14 would have looked like had he decided not to coach here.

In a lot of ways, it might have been his best work.

Is there another team who has had three coaches like Landry, Jimmy and Parcells?

Why? Sometimes, you should just smell the roses and don't worry about the thorns at the end of them. lol

Very wise. Very wise indeed.

I like this one better: A wise man once said, never try and remove a fly from a friend's forehead with a hatchet.

Yeah, a little over the top.

Yep. 49ers. Walsh. Seifert. Harbaugh. Although Harbaugh's attitude punched his ticket right out of San Fran. Harbaugh was not employed for very long, but his immediate success gives him a platform.

Great article. Love to hea the admiration BP has for Romo (the same with Staubach and Aikman admiring Romo).

What I really see from allot the negative response to Romo is that everyone knows he is an elite QB....they just don't want to admit it and look for every reason to discredit him...starting with the fumbled snap on the FG. They go s far as creating new statistical categories just to discredit him, i.e. records in must win game(despite the fat that every game before you clinch the playoffs and aain once you are in the playoffs is a must win game). The Biggest prt of this is because he is a Cowboy and all the Cowboy haters hate the fact that we have a legitimate QB. It reminds them of Staubach and Aikman and that's the last thing they want to have in Dallas. Another reason is his lack of pedigree there is a subset in the media that thinks Romo doesn't deserve to be the QB for America's team as a UDFA - a statistically successful one at that. Finally, there are those who discredit him because of his personality, i.e. somewhat laidback lack of leadership and doesn't view his job as a 28 hour a day commitment as some would want him to do....this despite all of the evidence that he puts in tremendous amount of time into his craft and that he has proven to be a very effective leaders.

Just the fact that NFL players themselves have voted Romo as one of the most overrated players is unbelieveable given the state of the team the past 4-5 years. There is not a player in this league that is more deserving of a Super Bowl than Romo in my opinion, and Jerry Jones was right when he said the biggest diservice was not putting him in a better position to win it.

Jerry only has to look in the mirror for that.

After reading that I want to say something like...That Bill is soooo Dreamy...but he is not, he is ugly old man, looks wise.

But I do love listening to him talk or reading about him talking football.

And as others have said, I miss his PCs because they were always entertaining. Not boring coach cliches, run arounds and mumbling like many other coaches (the mumbling is bilicheat).
He was nothing if not entertaining. Honestly don't think he had a press conference as a Cowboys HC that I didn't watch. You learned something new every time you listened to him.

And the idea of him jumping up off his couch screaming at Tony is just hilarious and awesome.

Garett is getting better but still boring.

Romo still has a couple years and JG has made his presence felt in the front office I think. Build that defense up a bit and we could be legit for a few years.

I can't lie that I am not worried about keeping the band together. With all of the media talk about McClay, Linehan, Marinelli, Callahan, all potentially leaving, and all of what seems like 53 players that need to be resigned all at once, I can't help but wonder if we can maintain the momentum from this year. Ideally, we would bring everyone back and improve on what we have now through the draft and fill depth through FA.

Garret's like the Federal Reserve. He says the same thing over and over again, so you have to pick up on very minor changes in his coach speak to read between the lines to figure out what's happening.

Yep his press conf's were the best. Football, Boxing, Horse Racing, The Circus, The Tournament, Religion - Annointing Oil, Jap Plays...The guy just had interesting stories about life in general. Wish we had him at least 5 years earlier/younger. Always had a great way about telling you about certain players too, always had great inside insight if that makes any sense.

Agreed, and even Jerry realizes it. Romo and no Championships would be such a shame. Perception of Romo will do a 360 if he gets that SB trophy. He already is ROH bound, HOF is definitely within reach with 1 SB Championship. I think Jerry will be super aggressive in FA looking for that 1-2 pieces that can really help put us over the top in 2015, we are sooooo dam close right now, just a couple of more key pieces to really make us dominant next year.

I am serious. Its "common knowledge" because people like to use it to discredit Parcells contributions to this franchise (which I believe were revolutionary).

Romo chose Dallas over Denver because of the QB situation in those two places. Romo was not a secret. Most teams scouted him. That Payton Eastern Illinois angle has been overplayed. Perhaps it played a role, but it is overplayed.

Mike Shanahan also has an Eastern Illinois connection. The Broncos signed Jake Plummer in 2003. He was better than what Dallas had at the time, but he wasn't that good.

Well, I wasn't discrediting Parcels in any way.
He knew little to nothing about Romo if not for Payton. They pushed for Romo after the draft because of Payton.

Parcel gets the credit he deserves because he stuck with Romo and eventually gave him his shot. He saw something after he got here that others didn't.

You guys get way too sensitive about Big Bill. I'm a fan.

Almost positive it was Payton that got romo here and I know it was Payton that pushed for romo to start well before new York bill actually started him.

"I would say when he is gone from Dallas they’ll probably be saying, 'Well, this quarterback is pretty good but he’s not Tony Romo,'" Parcells said.

In this post-season, Romo has a chance to move from a very good Dallas Cowboys quarterback to one of the greats. I always like to draw the comparison with Danny White - who was very, very good. One more victory between 80 and 82, one Superbowl, and he's on that list. But he's not. No one on this forum says "Romo will never be Danny White".

So let's find out this post-season if he belongs in the Mount Rushmore of Cowboys quarterbacks, or if he's another Danny White.
