Agreed, and even Jerry realizes it. Romo and no Championships would be such a shame. Perception of Romo will do a 360 if he gets that SB trophy. He already is ROH bound, HOF is definitely within reach with 1 SB Championship. I think Jerry will be super aggressive in FA looking for that 1-2 pieces that can really help put us over the top in 2015, we are sooooo dam close right now, just a couple of more key pieces to really make us dominant next year.

If we can sneak outta these playoffs with one Super Bowl win.. Then Jerry needs to be super aggressive and go for back to back.

Almost positive it was Payton that got romo here and I know it was Payton that pushed for romo to start well before new York bill actually started him.

This is on Romo's Wikipedia page.

Romo attended the 2003 NFL Combine, but, despite intriguing some scouts, went undrafted by any NFL team during the 2003 NFL Draft. Throughout the draft, Romo was assured by Sean Payton of the Cowboys' interest (Romo was also intensely pursued by former Denver Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan),[12] and shortly afterwards was signed as an undrafted rookie free agent by the Cowboys. Romo entered the 2003 training camp third on the Cowboys' depth chart behind Quincy Carter and Chad Hutchinson. In 2004, the Cowboys released quarterback Chad Hutchinson and signed veteran quarterback Vinny Testaverde and traded a third round draft pick to the Houston Texans for quarterback Drew Henson. Romo faced being cut from the roster until Quincy Carter was released following allegations of substance abuse. Throughout 2004 and 2005, Romo served as the holder for placekicks.[6] After Vinny Testaverde's tenure in Dallas ended in 2005, the Cowboys signed veteran quarterback Drew Bledsoe, the eighth starting quarterback for the Cowboys since 2000.

One of Romo's early career highlights was in 2004, when (as the third string QB) he rushed for the winning touchdown with six seconds left in a preseason game against the Oakland Raiders. Elevated to the Cowboys' #2 quarterback in 2005, Romo had strong showings in the 2005 and 2006 pre-seasons. In the 2006 off-season, Sean Payton (now head coach of the New Orleans Saints), offered a third round draft pick for Romo, but Jerry Jones refused, asking for no less than a second round draft pick. Romo eventually took over the first-string quarterback role from Drew Bledsoe during half time against the New York Giants on October 23, 2006.

those claiming thaqt Romo should have started before 2006 need to realize that Romo flat out said he was not ready to start before that year

Yeah.
I also think, but am not 100% sure, that when Payton went to New Orleans he offered us a 3rd rounder....but Jerry said no. This was before Romo had ever started a game.

What's more dumb? That Payton wouldnt got from a 3rd to 2nd or Jerry would have given him away for a 2nd (and taken maybe another TE)?

Jason Garrett raving about Marc Columbo's assistance with prep last week for the Lions. Another find by the great Parcells!

I shudder to think what '03-'14 would have looked like had he decided not to coach here.

Somebody says hello!

Anybody wish he would have stuck around until Garrett took over?

The best thing that happened to Romo was Parcells. He brought Romo along the way he should have been. Even then Romo was a bit of a playground player. Parcells warned him not to be. Starting Romo quickly would have put him out of the NFL very quickly. People forget there were times Jerry wanted no part of Romo starting here.

Rumor has it Romo wants to coach when his career is over.

Yeah, ive read that too. Wants to be an OC i think. I dont know why, i couldnt envision him on NFL network or somewhere as an analyst, but who knows. I didnt see Aikman as a color guy either since he never really 'said' anything as a player either.

One of the guys on DC.com has said he has too much money to put in the kind of work NFL coaches put in. With all the hours, travel and time away from family.
