More ESPN garbage….Archer rarely writes anything insightful on there.
I think a lot of them do that honestly. We have been all over this for two weeks he must be reading the zone for stories
How do they know that Cooper is in the Cowboys long term plans? Maybe the plan is to elevate CeeDee to #1 and re-sign Gallup as the #2. The might be able to get Gallup and Wilson for the price of Amari Cooper. And maybe get a 2nd round pick for Cooper. What we do know is that the Cowboys have a salary CAP problem in 2022. Trading Cooper is a quick way to free up $16 million.
Look at Cooper's stats. He has one 100 yard receiving game, 5 games under 70 yards, 2 games under 30 yards. He is averaging 12.4 yards per catch and he is on a pace to get 85 receptions in a 17 game season. Nice numbers, but are they great numbers? No. Are they $20 million per year numbers? I don't think so.
CeeDee is averaging 16.6 yds/catch, two 100 yd games (and one for 95 yards, 4 games over 70 yards and is on pace for 93 catches And he is on his rookie deal until 2024.
I know Cooper is a favorite of the Cowboys but the Cowboys have to worry about their entire roster.
Nice take. Is Cooper a 'dominant' WR? Not in my opinion so to me he is not worth the $20M+. That said, would another team take on his contract? I doubt it but you never know. Like you, I am in the camp of going with Lamb, Gallup, and Wilson as the starting WR's but keep in mind Wilson and Gallup are free agents as is TE Schultz. Therefore, Dallas needs to think long and hard about what they will do with Cooper (and other veteran players) so as to better the overall team.
