Actually Mendenhall's muscular build was something that concerned me before the draft. Just one big muscle.

Looks good in the mirror but may not be the best build for long term durability in the NFL as a RB.

But gloating is so much more fun. It's a long time until September; I need something to look forward to.

Sorry any sport where some of the best players, john Kruk and Lenny Dykstra, were chain smokers and guys like John Beck and David Well are considered athletes doesnt get the nod.

Sure NBA and FIFA players sell to get calls but that is just part of the game and once that is done they come back and paly just as hard and do not half step.

Batters are not being aimed at typically and pitchers are taught to keep their eyes open during their delivery so they can make a play on the ball. Getting hit in the head with a line drive like John Wasdin is certainly horrific but so rare as to be almost inconsequential.

OTOH the big men in the NBA give and take a pounding. Have you seen the type of punishment in the post that guys like Josh Howard and Shaquille O'neal dole out or the types of fouls guys like Robert Horry and Rasheed Wallace give to guys that drive to the basket. Watch Iverson or Ginobilli relentlessly attack the hoop and try and say they are weak or soft.

In soccer guys are running full speed and I do not know if you have ever blindsided by a slide tackle running full speed but i can tell you it doesn't feel good. In soccer you fight for the ball. What do you do in baseball? You hit it and throw it. Give me a break.

I think it was Kruk who said "I'm not an athlete, I'm a baseball player!"

Wasn't there a baseball pitcher who broke some ribs by coughing to hard?

Baseball players have to be the biggest weenies ever.
No, that would be world cup soccer players.

Notes from Steelers camp, Day 2
May 3, 2008 6:23 PM
Posted by ESPN.com's James Walker
Steelers rookie tailback Rashard Mendenhall sat out of both practices today after tweaking his hamstring, but head coach Mike Tomlin said resting him was a minor precaution. It was the second year in a row Pittsburgh's first-round pick hurt his hamstring in minicamp, as linebacker Lawrence Timmons suffered the same injury last year.
"It's becoming somewhat commonplace for some of these high-round draft picks for this type of this situation to happen to them during minicamp weekend,'' Tomlin said. "The schedule that these guys are on is really not conducive to preparing them to come in to meet what waits for them in terms of the minicamp.''

I am not a doctor but isnt ham"string" a tendon?.So if you tweak anything it should be the muscle right?.

True, but it's easier to pronounce and spell Hamstring Muscle Group than Semitendinosus or Semimembranosus.

ahh.. so the term"tweaked his hamstring" is not really accurate. It should be "tweaked one his hamstring muscles".

I have played football, basketball and baseball. I can tell you without a doubt, the most physically demanding of all of them is pitching 9 innings. Far and away more exerting than any other sport I have played.

And try playing a 162 game schedule.

Yeah I know what you mean. I've tried before, and I just couldn't handle having to deal with a strained rotator cuff all the time.

How the heck does a professional athlete tweak something in shirts and shorts.

Ill never understand that.

Probably by thinking that once the combine and workouts are over, you can sit on the couch and take it easy.

It's a hamstring, which is quite easy to tweak given the regimen that pro athletes put themselves under. Pro athletes lift a lot of lot of weights which makes an athlete stronger, but always hurts flexibility. So what happens is that all of the weight lifting, especially with the lower body lifting a running back would do, makes an athlete more suceptible to a hamstring pull when they run hard, even if they stretch all of the time.

To me, it's one of the errors athletes from all sports make today in that they are too worried about muscle mass and ignore muscle and body flexibility, which usually correlates stronger to athlete performance. Drew Bledsoe is much bigger guy than Tony Romo, but Romo is much more flexible and that allows him to perform at a higher level.
