No, that would be world cup soccer players.

actually the soccer folks can't understand why the other "football" players need to stop the action so much and constantly substitute.

I attended a World Cup game on a day where it was about 104 degrees. 100s of fans in the stands needed medical attention because of the heat.

You only get a handful of substitutions in soccer so nearly every player went the entire game. I'm sorry but guys who run for 90 minutes in that sort of heat are not weenies.

Could you imagine some of the reaction on this board if it was F Jones who tweaked a hamstring and was out of the mini-camp (instead of Mendenhall)?

I think what you end up with is a ROOKIE, in shorts, trying to run full/100% speed and impress his teammates and coaches...most veterans, never really hit FULL SPEED in shorts at practice, imo.

Even in high school and college, I think more guys pull muscles in shorts than in full gear...when you cut down to shorts, suddenly you have a little more range and power...tweeeeeeeeeeeeeek...that's my opinion on it...that and the fact that Mendenhall sucks....................................JK :)

MENDENHALL OUT WITH HAMSTRING INJURY
Posted by Michael David Smith on May 4, 2008, 2:50 p.m.
Steelers first-round draft pick Rashard Mendenhall has injured his hamstring and missed minicamp practice, leading coach Mike Tomlin to question whether high draft picks have a schedule that leaves them ill-prepared to start working.

“It’s becoming somewhat commonplace for some of these high-round draft picks for this type of situation to happen to them during minicamp weekend,” Tomlin said, per Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “The schedule that these guys are on is really not conducive to preparing them to come in to meet what waits on them at minicamp. They go to the combine, they go to their pro day, then they go on this city tour.”

Mendenhall, a running back from Illinois who is expected to split time with Willie Parker, is the latest in a string of Steelers rookies to get hurt early in his pro career. Last year first-round draft pick Lawrence Timmons left with a groin injury after participating in just one practice, and second-round pick LaMarr Woodley injured his hamstring in minicamp.

Tomlin has said he expects Mendenhall to be back to full participation at the start of the next off-season workouts on May 20.

Felix Jones > Mendenhall

I definitely hope you're right.

I was very much against drafting him, but I would be more than happy to be wrong.

(first time for everything!)
