The Eagles sell out to win now while they have a rookie contract QB.

They basically ruined Wentz by crushing the salary cap to win their first Lombardi.
He has a monster year and they had the best OL in football.
Then they had to re-tool and were stuck paying aging guys massive numbers.
Now they are doing the same to Hurts.
The gamble paid off first time around with a ring.
Will it this time??

The Eagles have like 8 starters hitting UFA and that doesn't cover any extension for Jalen Hurts.
Both lines will be decimated by free agency.
They have 9M in cap space.

The big wins have been hitting on Hurts in draft, getting so much return for damaged goods in Wentz, and frankly just really good luck with injuries to an older roster being so minimal.

If you can identify QBs in the draft and are willing to go all in, you too can win.
Both lines?

Their D Line 100% is going to change as they will lose both Hargrave and Cox (old), but Jordan Davis will fill as a run stuffer and they have that other kid Milton... over the last decade DLine sadly is always a strong part of their team.

As for offense, Lane Johnson, Malita, Landon Dickerson are all locked up long term and starting OL. Kelce hopefully retires but there again they already drafted his replacement in Jergeson.

To say both lines are decimated is false. They will suck hard next year due to defense all leaving or being old, but they are still going to have a top 5 O Line, WRs, te, and QB returning... i don't see them falling that far from grace, but hopefully I am wrong.

I give them a lot of credit for drafting replacements for two of their top linemen in Kelce and Cox. It’s quite a luxury to be able to have the young guys learn gif a year before they take over.

Agreed.

But in their defense, I believe the Cowboys have gotten better in that area.

Having said that, I can’t help but to feel it’s mainly due to the influence of the defensive coaches rather than pro personnel scouting.
It is mostly a willingness to pay guys. AJ Brown is a good football player but not a lot of teams would have traded a high pick then paid him 25M AVV and 100M total.

The Eagles have void years on guys with 4 year contracts already... lol.
Howie Roseman is here for a good time, not a long time.

He’s built and rebuilt that team from Super Bowl Champions to Super Bowl contenders in less time than it’s taken Dallas to win two playoff games.

And that cap hell everyone said was coming never happened.

Credit where credit is due.

He changed out the two most important positions on a football team - head coach and quarterback - and has them right back in it.

Voided years are the new rage in the nfl. Not just the Eagles.

I see 0 way the birds lose to the Gents. It would have to be an epic collapse. I mean you may see EVERYONE FIRED in the front office and coaching staff if that happened. But I would relish it.
Lol. No one is getting fired. Too much success this year for one game to cost people jobs.

Cap hell is overrated. You have to watch your cap no doubt, but with restructuring and voidable years you can borrow so easily from future seasons to keep your window open.

They value certain positions. For instance they do not pay running backs, but we obviously pay running backs but not WRs.

I would love to get Hargrave

The Eagles certainly make it look easy.

Hargrave was another great signing by them but as good as he is he's not the run stopping type we need. He's more of a penetrator... which we also need. Sign him and draft a huge run stopping DT and we are in business

It almost feels like the rest of the league keeps bailing them out of their bad choices

edit: I can totally seeing Hurts returning to a lower level of play as he inevitably stops running as much and his supporting casts weakens, and the Eagles flip him for a 1st and 3rd.
yeah. considering their success this year (so far) and his level of play it feels odd to say but I think this is a best case scenario. I highly doubt they're looking to upgrade or replace him this year, so I doubt they use their 2 first picks ammo to trade up for a qb, and since he was a 2nd rounder they'll need to extend him next season.

They built a cache of picks by being bad for a while. They didn't win a playoff game from 2009 to 2017.
They made a haul by trading the RG3 draft slot to WAS. So they started the rebuild with legit ammo.

Then they did have cap hell. They won 4 games in 2020. They fired a quality coach who made it back to the playoffs at same time they did.

I give them absolute credit for going for it in 2017 and coming up aces when a back up QB beat Brady in a Super Bowl.
Thats a nuts long shot bet as I pointed out when they did it but they cashed in.

If they can cash in again they will once again deserve major kudos.
But that team is not built for the long haul by any means.
The cap situation again sucks. It's just being hidden because they have a 1.4M QB.
But that has to be rectified very quickly or they get stuck with zero leverage.

No doubt having a rookie quarterback contract is a huge advantage which has allowed them the cap flexibility they’ve had to pay other pieces.

I have a hunch that they’re going to Buck the trend and NOT pay Hurts that huge contract. I think that Baltimore might do the same with Lamar Jackson too.

Most likely they extend Hurts this year to get maximum benefit. He gets a 4 year deal with this final year staying in place.
He probably gets something very similar to Dak 4/160M. --Hurts likely gets 2 void years at end.

His cap hit will undoubtedly rise from 2M to about 7-8M but that's very manageable.

Question becomes can they trade him later for return as they did Wentz and who knows.
I think most people assumed Indy was flat nuts. But it only takes one nut.

If Philly waits and he is a top 5 QB next year they will absolutely be forced to pay 50M per year or trade him on the tag at 50M.
It was the dumbest thing Dallas done this decade and the least likely scenario for any other team to follow.

It is huge gamble because you don't want to be the Chargers with Drew Brees.
Losing a Hall of Fame caliber QB is pain and suffering even if you hit on a really good player later.
But I like Hurts and hate Philly so I really do hope they go that route.
Get the Texas kid outta there.

Lamar is very interesting because so much of his game is movement and movement gets slowed as you take hits and age.
At the same time he's never had real weapons in the passing game.
He is a Miami kid and the Dolphins (may) need a QB.
They have weapons galore and a young QB to include in a trade.

The dude has it going on. He is backed by Lurie so he comes up with awesome ideas to get rid of bad deals and trade bad players. What I like about them is they don’t sit on mistakes. They fix them. We got a 5th for a good player with a hefty contract. He would have gotten a 2nd IMO….even with the contract. Because he wouldn’t announce it to the world a head of time……
Having Amatuers running the front office has put us at a competitive disadvantage for years.
McClay has been the bright spot and his drafts have kept us relevant.
Hoping that someday we will hire a professional GM.
Maybe when Jerry steps down ?
