No, he can’t draft certain positions well, in particular WR and LB. He drafted four of their five starting O-line, QB, TE, and starting RB. That’s not bad.
He also made a catastrophic trade for Wentz and busted on that pick so I don’t think he’s that great a drafting QB’s, though it’s obviously hard to get that position right. He’s done well on the OL, I agree there. He has a lot of 1st round busts though and that is not good at all for a GM. He’s just made up for it by pawning off those busts to other teams and he’s frequently gotten it right the second or third time around.

I hope so but I don’t think so.
Are you the guy that was talking to me about betting against the Eagles a couple of weeks ago? They now have 3 weeks in a row of not covering since Lane Johnson got hurt.

Ain't going to lie, this makes me sick to the stomach. But at some point, he's going to have all that talent. I'm guessing he's looking at a 2-3 year window.

How Eagles GM Howie Roseman built the best roster in the NFL

WHILE CHATTING WITH players and coaches before a November matchup against the Texans, Howie Roseman, Philadelphia Eagles GM and executive vice president, spotted a group of Eagles fans in the first row of Houston's NRG Stadium.

The fans began chanting his name. Roseman, with noticeable swagger, walked slowly toward them, making a beeline for one fan in particular, a man wearing a Phillies jersey who was holding up a hand-drawn, poster board sign.

"Howie You Are Forgiven!" the top half of the sign read. On the bottom half, the name of Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown, acquired in a trade by Roseman during the offseason, loomed large over the deleted names of previous Eagles wide receivers: Nelson Agholor, J.J.-Arcega Whiteside and Jalen Reagor. All Roseman draft acquisitions; all no longer with the team; and all universally regarded as bust
I'm not worried about Howie. He can't draft well and can't pick up free agents forever. Tell Howie to learn how to draft better in the 1st round then i'll fear him.......ughh...i'm mad this even made it to Cowboyszone....

3 weeks in a row? It was going into week 17 LOL. I said that the Eagles would beat the Saints but that they would not cover. The Saints did win outright, but that had more to do with Minshew being terrible than with Lane Johnson being out… Minshew was god awful. Week 18 was basically a preseason game…Yes the Eagles play their starters, but Hurts was in win but don’t get hurt mode. And I’m sorry they didn’t cover last weekend when they played no one LOL.

I dare you, bet everything on the Giants to win out right…I do think the Giants have a great chance to cover, but unless Hurts gets knocked out they’re not winning.

Put everything on Cowboys and Giants to win out right…You will make a ton LOL

Look at all the trades around the Wentz deal… He was masterful. It’s why they were able to get out of that without a terrible talent drain. I think he moved Bradford for first. He moved a couple other players for draft picks. Then was able to parlay all that plus more draft picks to get up to number two. I forget the details but When you take into account the first and third he got back from the Colts, I don’t even know if he lost much overall LOL

The Eagles roster building strategy reminds me of a "rob peter to pay paul" strategy, but somehow they're always making it work.

The Cowboys strategy reminds me of someone who budgets well, pays bills on time, but ultimately is still always broke.
Haha....true dat.

Both lines?

Their D Line 100% is going to change as they will lose both Hargrave and Cox (old), but Jordan Davis will fill as a run stuffer and they have that other kid Milton... over the last decade DLine sadly is always a strong part of their team.

As for offense, Lane Johnson, Malita, Landon Dickerson are all locked up long term and starting OL. Kelce hopefully retires but there again they already drafted his replacement in Jergeson.

To say both lines are decimated is false. They will suck hard next year due to defense all leaving or being old, but they are still going to have a top 5 O Line, WRs, te, and QB returning... i don't see them falling that far from grace, but hopefully I am wrong.
Excellent, well informed post. Kudos!

I'd kill to have him here if he was able to run the show. The Eagles have such a huge advantage in that regard. He had a couple of putrid drafts, but has last 2 have been very good and his trades have been the kind of thing they would teach in GM school if there was such a thing.

I mean that’s basically what I said yes. He made a disastrous pick in Wentz but he is a master at pawning off the eagles’ garbage, ie Bradford, Wentz himself, even scrubs like Reagor got midround picks in return. He lost almost nothing in the Wentz debacle due to his trades. That still doesn’t excuse drafting Wentz in the first place of course, but that’s a different matter.

Voided years are the new rage in the nfl. Not just the Eagles.
Void years, which is just extended credit card type spending; is used sparingly among few players per team.
Signing a dude to 4-year deal with a void year at WR is just wild.
It's what the Giants did with Golladay that has turned into a bottom 5 contract in all the NFL.

QBs and OL should get void years because they play so long typically but other positions are generally really bad bets.

The problem with credit card spending is same as it is in any household. You are spending now and thus cannot spend it later.
This creates immediate cap space but reduces options and flexibility.

Giants may have to rock with Golladay until 2024... he's had 600 yards receiving in 2 years.... ouch!!

The dude has it going on. He is backed by Lurie so he comes up with awesome ideas to get rid of bad deals and trade bad players. What I like about them is they don’t sit on mistakes. They fix them. We got a 5th for a good player with a hefty contract. He would have gotten a 2nd IMO….even with the contract. Because he wouldn’t announce it to the world a head of time……
