How long will it take for Tony Romo to be Tony Romo?
Todd Archer, ESPN Staff Writer
IRVING, Texas -- In accepting the Nancy Lieberman Lifetime Achievement Award at the Dream Ball Gala last spring, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo proclaimed, “We’re going to win a Super Bowl next year.”
Romo’s season has not gone the way he or anyone thought because of a broken collarbone and as a result the Cowboys’ season has not gone the way they or anyone thought. But on Tuesday, Romo dipped his toes into the Super Bowl well again, this time tweeting a clip from the movie Major League.
If Romo can rally the Cowboys from their 2-7 hole, then, referencing Jeremy Mincey’s comments last week, he would be a football Jesus.
It would make all of Romo’s signature plays in which he made something out of nothing look like child’s play. The Cowboys are tied for the worst record in the NFC. Only the Cleveland Browns (2-8) have a worse record.
They haven’t won since Sept. 20, with Brandon Weeden and Matt Cassel going 0-7. And yet there is hope again with Romo’s return from injury this week. There is a difference between optimism and realism.
