Below is what ESPN had to say... take it for what its worth... Wouldnt be bad to get another veteran to go along with Newman. I still think he would be behind Scandrick who will start and move to slot when boys go into nickle.

A rumor has sprung up via the Dallas Morning News that the Dallas Cowboys might take a look at free agent cornerback Ken Lucas. Lucas would add a veteran presence to the team's defensive backfield, a unit that also lacks depth after Anthony Henry was traded to the Detroit Lions for Jon Kitna.
Playing in all 16 games for the Carolina Panthers in 2008, Lucas had 60 tackles, 10 pass deflections and two interceptions. No matter where Lucas winds up, he's hoping to get better treatment than that which was doled out to him by Steve Smith during training camp prior to this past season.

I didn't really watch Carolina play last year, but I would imagine he is a better option than Ball.

I think he would be 3rd on the depth chart and play outside when we go to 3 cbs.

If we sign him I like our depth.

1. Newman
2. Scandrick
3. Lucas
4. Jenkins
5. Ball (if they do not move to safety)
6. Maybe draft a middle rounds prospect here

I really don't think they will start Scandrick over Jenkins, unless Jenkins flat out stinks up the joint in training camp and preseason....as unfair as that may be to Orlando, who did clearly outplay him last season.

You can say that again.

I wouldn't mind having him, at the right price, to add some depth and ability to our corner situation. You can never have too many proven, decent/good corners, in this league.

I know a lot of you guys still have it in your head that Jenkins sucks because of one singular play, but you can probably bet that when the season starts, he will be higher on the depth chart than Scandrick.

Like I said he will be, but it won't be deserved, unless he outplays Scandrick in training camp. Because based off last year, its clear who the superior player was.

One play or not one play.

Im also recalling his "one play" pick six, and Scandrick was still the better corner.

Lucas has been a very good DB over his career, he has 24 ints... he has good size (6-0, 205 pounds), and has been very durable over the years, missing just 6 games in 8 years... he is 30 now, but I think he could be a good short-term addition, say a 2 or 3 year contract...

Provided, of course, the price is right...

I wouldn't mind this signing at all, but He'll want more money then we'll pay.

One play has nothing to do with it. Scandrick played better, period, end of story.

What do you think caused all the talk about Scandrick playing the star position?

I suspect this is the source of this "reporting":

Ken Lucas on the market

Calvin Watkins E-mail News tips

Carolina just let go cornerback Ken Lucas today. Lucas finished with just two interceptions and was second on the team with 14 passes defended last season. He also had 70 total tackles.

With the Cowboys trading Anthony Henry to Detroit for Jon Kitna, it might be worth taking a look at Lucas as a replacement.

The Cowboys of course like their young corners in Orlando Scandrick and Mike Jenkins to play opposite Terence Newman. But there's nothing wrong with getting a veteran.

So this probably came from... Yes... Calvin Watkins' speculation.

I would do this move. we lost Henry to get Kitna, but if we gain Lucas then the loss of henry becomes irrelevant. Lucas would be a solid contributor. He can alos be a potential asset in the playoffs should Dallas have to face Carolina. Lucas can provide all the insider infor on all of Carolina's WR roster.

The fact that that Jenkins would be the starting CB opposite Newman.

Scandrick was clearly better.

But Jenkins clearly has more upside. Jenkins has better make up speed and hips and is a clearly better option to man cover guys. Scandrick was exposed a bit late in the year when asked to man cover guys. He is a very solid CB and looked amazing for a rookie whereas Jenkins looked awful on every tackle attempt and had ridiculous form at times but showed he was very good at covering man on man because he is so fluid.

The only question for me is can Jenkins learn to tackle someone.

I agree on the higher upside, and im sure he has better hips, and I did see the man to man skills.

However, Scandrick has more speed. He ran a 4.33 I think at the combine, which was one of the top 5 fastest times of the last few years.

Just did a little reading on some Panthers' boards, and I'm warming to the idea... my biggest worry is what he'll cost, if the Boys can avoid him; he was due to count over 10 mil against Carolina's cap this year, will he be willing to take a greater than 50 per cent pay cut??

Anyway, here are some of the comments:

Lucas' value to the Panthers, especially last season, can't be measure by his on-field play alone. He was a class act who may have saved the season when he quickly forgave wide receiver Steve Smith for the training camp punching incident.

The Panthers were virtually out of cap room after giving big multiyear contracts to re-sign cornerback Chris Gamble and left tackle Jordan Gross, and to put the franchise tag on defensive end Julius Peppers (a commitment of $16.683million for 2009).

Lucas started 49 of 50 games the past four seasons since signing as an unrestricted free agent in 2005. He had 13 interceptions in that span.

“He's given us everything we thought and hoped for when we signed him,” Hurney said.

Yeah, if the price is right, I'd go for it... I just wonder if the price will be right...

Brandon Flowers outplayed both of them and ran a 4.55 at the combine, don't get too caught up in the 40's.

Pretty sure nowhere did I say anything at all about anything other than speed....in fact I said im sure Jenkins (and whoever else) may be better at everything else, but pure speed Scandrick is superior.

You are correct however.

I recall a bunch of people here not wanting anything to do with him cause of that 40 time too. I liked Flowers at Virgina Tech.

Not saying I'd trade our guys for him, by any means, but I certainly liked him.
