Totally agree. Jenkins did very well last year IMO... He made a lot of plays on the ball, just as advertised.

And I have to admit it's a little funny to me at this time of year that about a year ago, people would sometimes confuse Malcolm Jenkins with the guy we ended up getting, and they'd get their hand slapped that Malcolm was the true stud, top-of-the-draft guy they were thinking about, but we wouldn't have any shot at him. And now a year later, they're talking about Malcolm being moved to safety because he's so slow. Meanwhile, Mike Jenkins looks like a stud athlete. All he needs is to work hard and he'll be on the corner for us for a long time.

Malcolm might slip out of the first round, and Kiper was touting him last year as the best corner hes seen in years. What a difference a year makes.

I have my doubts this signing will happen. But if it were to happen, I'd think we'd be set a CB for a while! We'd have great depth and a good mix of veterans (newman/lucas) and youth (jenkins/scandrick/ball).

By the way, I also think Jenkins starts over Scandrick. Scandrick seems perfect as the slot guy.

I'd still like to see Lucas in here. Will Newman and Jenkins play all 16 games? No one knows that. It's better to be safe than be stuck with no depth!

Depends on the $$$$$$.

He was going to make $10 mill this year with the Panthers, cleary he is not going to get that much here.

The question then becomes, how much of a pay cut is Lucas willing to play for???

I would think $5 mill per yr is the max we would go, so would Lucas take a 50% pay cut to play with Dallas???

I dont think so myself.

Was he going to make that much, or was that his cap hit taking into account a prorated signing bonus?

Lucas has been a very good DB over his career, he has 24 ints... he has good size (6-0, 205 pounds), and has been very durable over the years, missing just 6 games in 8 years... he is 30 now, but I think he could be a good short-term addition, say a 2 or 3 year contract...

Provided, of course, the price is right...

Absolutely, but is he willing to be a 3rd or 4th corner? If he is signed then really do expect Scandrick to move to FS in a lot of our coverage packages, or maybe even Lucas because Jenkins and Scandrick are getting playing time this year and rightfully so.

We don't even need to get into Newman because he's obviously taking the other side all day long, unless he gets hurt. That's when Lucas really becomes valuable, unfortunately....
