So this probably came from... Yes... Calvin Watkins' speculation.

So it's a non story. Why do I feel like 5Countem? ;)

The dolphins have reported intrest in Lucas. They need corners with owens in buffalo.

A team signing a player as a matchup for a signee elsewhere....geezums.

We need to sign Alan Faneca ASAP.

Just did a little reading on some Panthers' boards, and I'm warming to the idea... my biggest worry is what he'll cost, if the Boys can avoid him; he was due to count over 10 mil against Carolina's cap this year, will he be willing to take a greater than 50 per cent pay cut??

Anyway, here are some of the comments:

Yeah, if the price is right, I'd go for it... I just wonder if the price will be right...
I sort of doubt it -- it seems to me this guy could start for more than a few teams.

Yeah, I checked around myself and saw the same thing.

One media member speculates and another runs with it as fact.

The one thing all of our current Free Agent signings have in common is they are players one or more of our current coaching staff has coached at one point in their career.

Do any of you know if we have a coach currently on our staff who is familiar with Ken Lucas or Tory Holt? I'm not sure if this is a trend the Cowboys organization is trying to stick with, but, then again, I woudn't call it a coincidence either.

Lucas has been a very good DB over his career, he has 24 ints... he has good size (6-0, 205 pounds), and has been very durable over the years, missing just 6 games in 8 years... he is 30 now, but I think he could be a good short-term addition, say a 2 or 3 year contract...

Provided, of course, the price is right...

Totally agree.

The Patriots are probably kicking themselves for being so hasty in signing any available vet CBs. Lucas would have been a great option for them based on their interests.

This guy gets toasted more than Henry. He outright sucks! Carolina fans in Charlotte fill the talk radio waves with joy when he was cut.

My neighbor is a huge Panthers fan, and he said once Lucas got jabbed up in camp by Steve Smith - he was never the same player or guy.

Scandrick was clearly better.

But Jenkins clearly has more upside. Jenkins has better make up speed and hips and is a clearly better option to man cover guys. Scandrick was exposed a bit late in the year when asked to man cover guys. He is a very solid CB and looked amazing for a rookie whereas Jenkins looked awful on every tackle attempt and had ridiculous form at times but showed he was very good at covering man on man because he is so fluid.

The only question for me is can Jenkins learn to tackle someone.

Hutch is better than Carter. Carter is more athletic, but Hutch has a stonger arm and a higher ceiling.

I really don't think they will start Scandrick over Jenkins, unless Jenkins flat out stinks up the joint in training camp and preseason....as unfair as that may be to Orlando, who did clearly outplay him last season.

I understand what you are saying, but that mentality is stupid. The coaches should play the best player regardless of where he was drafted and how much money you pay him.

I think he would be 3rd on the depth chart and play outside when we go to 3 cbs.

If we sign him I like our depth.

1. Newman
2. Scandrick
3. Lucas
4. Jenkins
5. Ball (if they do not move to safety)
6. Maybe draft a middle rounds prospect here

I would put Jenkins over Lucas, and probably right there with Scandrick to battle for the starting position.
A few bad ROOKIE plays does not = a bust. Or even lack of playing time.

Didn't we almost sign Lucas four years ago, but ended up signing Henry instead? Seems like I remember those two being compared, and being considered to be very similar.

...or give the more talented player a little time to learn the zone coverages he's never played before. He will improve.

I like Scandrick as much as the next guy, but most fans have clearly exaggerated his ability while downplaying Jenkins'....all based on relatively little knowledge of the players and an embarrassing ole' by Jenkins. One has become a deity while the other has become the devil. The fact that the team was tinkering with the idea of putting Scandrick at safety and having Jenkins start opposite Newman speaks volumes.

IMO, Jenkins will likely be the starter, and it won't be because of where he was drafted. Although for many Scandrick fans, that clearly won't be the case.

Totally agree. Jenkins did very well last year IMO... He made a lot of plays on the ball, just as advertised.

And I have to admit it's a little funny to me at this time of year that about a year ago, people would sometimes confuse Malcolm Jenkins with the guy we ended up getting, and they'd get their hand slapped that Malcolm was the true stud, top-of-the-draft guy they were thinking about, but we wouldn't have any shot at him. And now a year later, they're talking about Malcolm being moved to safety because he's so slow. Meanwhile, Mike Jenkins looks like a stud athlete. All he needs is to work hard and he'll be on the corner for us for a long time.
