Do we really have to go through the charade every time? Make the distinction between character and football character? Explain how every single team in the league has players with substance issues. That some of them, like Scandrick last season, happen to also be guys with great football character? That the fact is, this really is a high character football team as evidenced by the fact that it hung together despite the worst set of setbacks and unexpected changes of fortune in recent memory? I guess we do.

The fact is, character does matter to this club. They try hard to support their players. Even the troubled ones like Randle and Brent. The team gets it. And the team never promised not to take a chance on a guy with a mix of character concerns and real ability. In Jason's own words:

“We did bring some guys into our team who have had some issues off the field,” Garrett said. “We’ll continue to try to help those guys with those issues. But anybody who has any understanding of the kind of team that we have, I don’t want to start naming names, because I could name 50 guys off the top of my head who are exactly what you want in a football player. We have to make sure that our team is chocked full of those kind of guys and continue to build our team that way.”

Some of you guys really need to take your foot off the accelerator when it comes to mocking and complaining every little thing that get said in the long offseason. Or, rather, you don't, but it sure would be nice if you considered it.

I do think the cowboys have some high character guys but I also think they have some characters that get high. they have lots of guys that u cant trust to be there all season for lots of different reasons. personally I just don't think that garrett is the coach that will lead them to a championship he makes to many mistakes but of course jerry don't help lots of times with the stuff he does.

The only charade I see is the constant redefining of otherwise clear terms.

Greg Hardy has character?

No, he means "football character". Greg has that.

What about Rolando? Dude looks for every excuse to skip practice.

"Football character on Sundays". He clearly means how much character a guy has when it comes to game day, how is that not clear?

Keep narrowing it down enough and the only character Jason will be talking about will be what kind of character a player demonstrates while he's taking a leak at halftime.

Please. You're as bad as Garrett with trying to have it both ways. Like him, you can't.

There are 53 guys on a roster. Character is very important to us, but in some cases we'll take a chance on a troubled but very talented football player if we think we can help him. But overall, we want to be very careful to maintain the balance of the locker room.

It's pretty simple. And it's not having it both ways. It just takes an understanding that there are a lot of factors that go into roster decisions, and football character is only one of them.

If Mickey Spags ever retires you would make an excellent replacement.

It's absolutely having it both ways and it's blatant hypocrisy that's being pointed out by many. The Cowboys value character - right until they don't.

I have no problem with them taking chances on players with questionable character, I'm advocating keeping Hardy. But admit it and stop trying to state otherwise, especially after its just blown up in your face.

I realize you consider that an insult of sorts, but I have no issues with Mickey. He can at least keep competing notions separate and in his head at the same time.

Im right regarding what I'm saying about character, too, for the record.

Sorry stash. It's not. Something can be important without it being the only or the overriding consideration. That's how multi variate analyses work. And building a competitive NFL roster is most definitely a multi variate problem.

In Hardy's case, it sounds like the issues were more than football character issues. Which is why I really wanted him here to begin with, but don't want him back.

It wasn't an insult rather an observation. Mickey always spins everything positive for the team just like you do. I really envy you in that regard. I wish I never let anything this team does bother me. As far as being right, I am quite sure Mickey believes he is too. Everyone has their own opinion and everyone thinks they are right.

You tell yourself that. Make up whatever stories and buy into whatever spin and lies Garrett and the Cowboys give you. Myself and the rest of the world see this for exactly what it is.
