If Wade basically wanted someone to motivate and run the position coaches and defensive meetings, knowing Wade was going to develop the gameplan and call the plays, and if Clancy wanted 3-4 experience, I'd be completely down with this. It also gives us a young coordinator to run the defense if Wade steps down next year and we elevate Garrett.

There are a couple of things about this idea that suck.

#1: He is a 4-3 coach and we don't run a 4-3 so what exactly is he going to do? Stand around and watch whats going on? No thanks.

#2: He sucks. I don't care if others like him he flat out sucks as a DC.

Same here. It seems like an odd mix at first, but he's a smart young guy and maybe he wants to learn something from Wade.

I have to admit I'm a bit skeptical, though, because of Pendergast's history here. I hope this isn't really another Jerry hire in disguise.

Pendergast, would be a good DC this year, because we have Wade who essentially is the "Head Coordinator" behind HC Jerry. But that is not to hurt CP's chance of becoming the DC today. He is a coach that called a mix of 3-4 and 4-3 plays last year in Arizona with very minimal talent compared to us. Wilson and Dockett and DRC w ould probably be their only starters that would start for us. He also is an up and comer and and hasn't had much talent on D to work with in Arizona. One name the Cardinals mention in replacing him is Pittsburgh LB coach Keith Butler, who is the reason for Harrison's development and Woodley's development for the Stealers.

Pendergast was also Roy Williams' secondary coach back in 2002 where he was the runner up rookie of the year, I think.

Color me not emotionally attached to this possibility until I see something of substance on it. Meanwhile I will continue vomiting on myself at the mere mention of Campo as DC.

I take anything that John Clayton writes about the Cowboys as fabricated.

I have never seen him have any sort of insight or breaking news about the organization.

Quite the opposite in fact.

When Clayton writes about the Cowboys, you can usually write it off as untrue.

I remember him on the radio a few years ago dispelling the TO to Dallas rumors and saying Owens would wait months to sign anywhere.

The day before Owens signed with the Cowboys.

Wouldn't want Campo back, myself, but mostly b/c I don't like what it symbolizes and think it could lead to another photo of him in a wet suit. But he wasn't a bad coordinator for us. Just a really bad head coach with a really, really bad team.

that is the reason the cards lost the superbowl because of defense

I'd probably say that Warner's interception at the end of the half was the game changer.

Who would want to come here and coach under the real DC, especially given the probability that the coaching staff will likely be gutted in 10 months.

Clancy has experience with DB and LB so he's a good person to have around.

Does anyone know Clancy's approach? We all know that Wade is really running the D, so the X and O stuff doesn't matter. I'm more interested in his dealings with players. Our DC will pretty much be in charge of implementing Wade's defense and doing the day to day crap like running meetings. I think you need a hard *** for that job.

An unemployed DC? Someone who wants to add 3-4 experience to his resume? Someone with ties to the organization and who might make the cut to be in the next regime with a very talented roster and one of the leagues best players?

Seriously -- a 41 year old coach isn't going to be a dyed in the wool 4-3 or 3-4 guy.

I don't know where people get the idea that coaches can't make this sort of transition or wouldn't want to. Many coaches in the league bring a wide range of experience. Beli coached offense, defense, and special teams. Mangini started as an offensive assistant. McDaniels started on defense. Tomlin coached WR in college. Harbaugh has coached O in college and D and ST in the pros.

Well, I look at it this way. In about 1 to 2 years we should be able to hire Rex Ryan as DC. ;)

wasn't zimmer a "4-3" guy before he ran the "3-4" here? learning versatility is a good thing. learning the 3-4 under wade is a great thing. and CP ran multiple sets this year and got that defense to overachieve. i was pretty surprised they let him go. i'd love to bring CP back to Dallas.

I was shocked they let him go. He'd put together a scrappy unit, working with smoke and duct tape for a couple of years there. And the Superbowl losing drive was really a lot of great offensive execution by the Steelers more than it was poor defensive play.

He's not a great fit for us in terms of experience, but he's a talented coach with ties to the organization. We could do worse.

it really isn't about Clancy. It was about Clancy being pushed on Wisenhunt and Wisenhunt now having the mojo to say "no, I want my own guy in here"

I keep tabs on the reporters over at BSP...err, I mean ESPN. Mr. Blue Suit and Mort couldn't hit an accurate story on the Cowboys if it knocked them in the head with a shovel. Clayton, who I don't like because he's an admitted Cowboys hater, usually has pretty decent accuracy on Cowboys stories. I'm not a big Penderghast fan, but I think this story has some legs given Clayton's past accuracy on Cowboys stories.

Just my .02.
