ESPN Mosley: Ogletree turning heads in Dallas

Honestly, I think this means Bye-Bye Crayton in the long run. I have really loved him as a Cowboy, but time is like a nasty old woman, biting at you with some decayed dentures. I think PC's only chance is at special teams, and still I think we are honestly better without him because we can give our young talents a chance.

I welcome his experience, but I think the days are numbered, if not over.

two guys with very little NFL experience do not make a solid vet expendable.

When that vet is 33 years old, they do.

Just read McMahon's article on Kevin Ogletree. He did a good job.

I'm excited about this undrafted player from Virginia Tech. I'm pulling for him for sure. This guy can help us win games, but you have to give him some chances to play. We shall see what happens. I stated that I wasn't too optimistic earlier, but we will see. Hopefully, he gets to play some.

It is good to see him learning all the WR spots.

Like Theebs stated earlier, he dusted Asante Samuel but Romo just missed him on a bomb.

He's from UVA. Wahoo-wah.

My fault, casmith07. For some reason, I thought he was from VT. It must have been that beat down in Atlanta still going through my head. Yeah, the article stated Virginia.

Crayton sees it the same way, apparently.

No offense to Crayton but role palyer receivers are a dime a dozen, it's the possession receivers and complimentary deep threats that ae hard to calibrate so it's no surprise to me the UFA's such as Hurd and Ogeltree can make the team as specialist receivers; something that Crayton always was with the exception of 2007 when necessity not design put him in the starting line up.

He is capable, a good and dependable receiver, but not a threat to start in Dallas anymore.

I would like to see Manny Johnson make this team. I think he can take Sam Hurd's spot on the roster.

If Dallas doesn't put him on the 53, someone will grab him.

I can't believe the number of people expecting Roy Williams to get demoted to #4 or below.

I hope RW finally plays like the guy we thought we were getting this yr, but to say there's a chance he wont be demoted to #4 (or less) isnt that far fetched either. He was already losing snaps at the end of last season in 2 and 3 WR sets. If he doesnt perform any better in TC and preseason this yr, he wont be on the field much IMO unless somebody else gets hurt.

The MVP for this team is scouting director Tom Ciskowski.. Jerry needs to find a way to keep this guy in the organization.. He keeps finding guys that more than contribute in the late rounds and undrafted free agents.. We are loaded with young talent in many positions.. Where we consider to be thin at. Many teams wish they had what we got.. Its time for the coaching staff to bring these guys together and make runs for superbowl. With Romo in place there is no reason not to have a 5 year run of winning succesful seasons..

Ciskowski has done a great job and has for years. People thought losing Ireland would be crippling, but Ciskowski has proven to be better than he was IMO. Ireland is/was just a puppet for Parcells.

again though, if they keep hurd and make him active that is only better for us, but I just cant seem them keeping hurd or crayton and then deactivating them every week. That would be a pretty crappy thing to do.

They have to keep one of the two in order to fill out the WR group - or go out and find someone else.

I'm not saying Hurd is a better WR than Crayton. He isn't. What I'm saying is that if (IF) Austin, Williams, Bryant, and Ogletree turn out to be the number 1-4 receivers... then the team might feel like Hurd would be a better team mate in that 5th slot more so than Crayton would be.

IOW, Crayton might rock the boat being buried down the depth chart, while Hurd might not.

Now, I do understand that you are saying Williams, Bryant and Ogletree aren't nearly as proven as Crayton, and I agree. What I'm saying is that (IF) after all of training camp and 5 preseason games the team feels like Crayton is going to be 5th, they might go with Hurd instead.

You are most likely correct though. They probably will keep Crayton over Hurd.

I don't know that I am correct, and in fact, I'm not actually saying I think the team will keep Crayton over Hurd. It just makes sense to me to keep the proven guy when you have so many other unprovens on the team. The Cowboys sometimes seem to think differently than I do - go figure. I also agree that there is a chance that Crayton may be hurt by showing himself to be disgruntled. It's always best to have all your players be gruntled rather than disgruntled.

I think "good enough" has already been established, with youth being the deciding factor.
I think we all know Ogletree has the talent, hell he is faster than dez. We just need to find routes where he can be productive. This kid left UVA as a junior which shows he may have a higher opinion of himself, but his numbers back it up. I hope the kid has a great year.

He had 723 yards and 5 TD's his last year in college. Not bad, but hardly anything special.

Thats not a fair analysis of ogletrees last year in college. Go read about the team, they had some changes and it affected him.

and as far as the 5th wr goes, this is what I keep trying to get across to you and your not understanding. You dont pay a veteran wr 2 million dollars and then deactivate him on gameday. Hurd has a better chance because of that, but even hurd has been in the league 4 years now, so with the 5th wr spot you want to have someone you can develop who will play special teams and who will not be upset about being deactivated.

It doesn't matter. All that matters is what someone does, and until they do something you can't say they deserve credit for doing something. I can give a thousand excuses for why a lot of players don't do this or that, but in the end they have to go out and do it. The team would really suck if we just assumed things and put too much faith in guys that haven't proven anything yet.

Agree with that.

Ciskowski spent several years as a college assistant coach, bouncing around the country from job to job. He said he likes his position as a scout much better. He said, as a coach, there are too many things out of your control when it comes to job security. As a scout, "you can stay in one place as long as your grades are good."

This man is very humble and, unlike the guy who went to Miami, has an almost non-existent ego. He paid his dues. He knows what it's like to be sent packing as an assistant coach and scrounging for jobs. He has finally found his role in football and is a perfect fit at Valley Ranch. He's a no-nonsense guy who is perfectly happy to blend into the background and just do his job, which he happens to do very well. It's impressive that he likes the accountability of it.

players need to earn PT. Not have it given to them. If they are good enough, they'll knock PC off the roster. But "good enough" really needs to be established by game play.

they're earning it right now. If all you went by was "game play" nobody would ever earn a job because everybody starts off as a rookie.

Yeah, but supposedly everyone has jumped on the Ogletree bandwagon based on his game play, when the truth is he hasn't earned anything by his game play except a roster spot and a chance to continue to try and prove himself. I cana't give him credit for more until he gets more chances and is used to run a variety of pass routes.

True and as a 4th WR his plays will still be limited but at least he will be getting them. Once you get down to 4th and 5th WR I would hope it is guys who have a future with the ball club
