Ware could be number one, and he's better than Haynesworth.

If Samuel is worthy, Newman is worthy.

Period.

That is really unbelievable.

I have a feeling the former players who voted are the ones who made this list garbage. Many of them are clueless.

This might be worse than Jim Fassel's all-NFC East team.

You hit the nail right on the head! That's exactly why this list sucks so bad. Look at some of those names. Great players, deserving HOFers. But since when can players judge talent. Especially older retired players who may not follow the game the way they once did.

I'd bet dollars to donuts most of the members on this site know more about the league today than many of the HOFers who contributed to this POS!

Seriously, would anyone consider any of these defensive players before D Ware if a FA draft were held today?

EDIT: forgot Hayensworth on that list, too.

Not if that GM wanted to have a job the following day he wouldn't.

Something else that's really sad -- if Ware was ranked 15th, we know that some of the more intelligent voters probably had him higher. To be at 15, there were some people who probably voted him in the 20s or maybe even 30s.

A group of chimps could have put together a more accurate list.

this is clearly a list based on their entire career as a football player. the list is completely wrong if they are basing it off how good they are now.

When you look at the guys who voted, you'd have to assume that most of them don't keep up with the game.

If you ignore the ridiculous Cowboy slotting, the list loses credibity as early as #5, when you consider that LT isn't the best back on his own team. But he has high name recognition, so a bunch of old-timers voted for him.

I'd wager close to half those guys don't even know who Jay Ratliff is.

I think if you were to hold a fantasy draft, like in Madden (oh noes, how long before someone criticizes the use of Madden in a post).....

Some GM would take Romo in the top 100 picks.

Dunno.

I have no proof of that, however. But its based on a hunch.

And I'd be willing to bet Vick doesn't touch that top 100 list. Or some team would have paid Vick a LOT more money to sign him when he was a free agent. I mean... if he's a top 100 player....

Eli has won a Superbowl. Therefore ESPN has anointed the NFL's all-time greatest QB.

Don't worry, it wears off. Ask Trent Dilfer and Brad Johnson. :lmao2:

But Dilfer or Johnson have never been considered top 100 b4 or after they won a SB..........

15. OLB DeMarcus Ware, Cowboys -- I fear that this list loses some credibility by ranking Ware this low. He's arguably the best defender in the game -- and the panel ranked him behind Haynesworth, Ed Reed, Troy Polamalu, Ray Lewis and Dwight Freeney. Ware's the best pass-rusher in the game and he deserves to be in the top 10. Perhaps the panelists were handing out lifetime achievement awards.

88. QB Michael Vick -- C'mon! To put Vick ahead of Romo and Palmer is plain silly.

I see Ware behind only Ray and Ed. the others are vastly overrated (imho)

Vick...in the top 100?...even when he was 25 (right before his expulsion from the league and off to jail) he shouldn't have been rated higher then 50

Lewis is no longer a top 5 player in the league. He's not the player he was 4 or so years ago, and he's certainly not in a class with Demarcus Ware.

Ray Lewis probably doesnt belong on the top-100 anymore, let alone where they have him ranked.

If any GM would honestly pick him above DeMarcus Ware, they need to be fired.

Posted by ESPN.com's Matt Mosley

The folks at Sporting News put together a panel of at least 27 members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame and various executives across the league to vote on the top 100 current players in the league. As you might expect, quarterbacks across the NFL led the way by securing 12 spots. But you may be shocked by who was left off the list. The SN panel put Eagles backup Michael Vick at No. 88, but left off Tony Romo, Aaron Rodgers, Carson Palmer. Does that make sense to anyone?

Here are the NFC East players who showed up on the list:

6. DT Albert Haynesworth, Commanders -- I don't really have a problem with Haynesworth in this spot, but I'm not sure LaDainian Tomlinson is the fifth-best player in the league right now.

17. RB Brian Westbrook, Eagles -- When healthy, Westbrook's one of the most dangerous offensive weapons in the game. He was the third running back on the list.

22. QB Donovan McNabb, Eagles -- McNabb's the best QB in the NFC East? I didn't realize that.

28. DE Osi Umenyiora, Giants -- Maybe the ballots were passed out immediately after the Giants' Super Bowl win.

38. TE Jason Witten, Cowboys -- I'm not sure why Tony Gonzalez is 28 spots ahead of Witten.

39. S Brian Dawkins, Eagles -- Yes, I know he's playing for the Broncos now, but SN listed him as an Eagles for top 100 purposes.

43. RB Clinton Portis, Commanders -- Maybe a little low for Portis, but he's showing signs of wear and tear.

46. DE Justin Tuck, Giants -- Way too low. At this point, I'd rank him ahead of Umenyiora. He's the most respected voice in the Giants' locker room.

50. QB Eli Manning, Giants -- I'd have him at least 20 spots earlier. And I'd probably put him ahead of McNabb.

52. CB Asante Samuel, Eagles -- One of the best corners in the game shows up right behind Brett Favre and his balky shoulder.

53. G Chris Snee, Giants -- He's quietly emerged as one of the best in the league. Good to see him get recognized.

74. DE Trent Cole, Eagles -- One of the true unsung heroes in the league. Faces a lot of double teams but still makes plays.

79. G Leonard Davis, Cowboys -- He's been pretty consistent with the Cowboys. Absolutely dominant at times.

84. C Andre Gurode, Cowboys -- He'd emerged as one of the top centers in the league, but his game tapered off last season.

85. DT Jay Ratliff -- If SN puts more coaches on the panel, Ratliff would be at least 30 spots higher. A relentless player who causes a lot of trouble up front.

88. QB Michael Vick -- C'mon! To put Vick ahead of Romo and Palmer is plain silly.

Who's missing from the Beast? Antonio Pierce, David Diehl, Marc Colombo, Kenny Phillips, Chris Cooley, Santana Moss, DeSean Jackson, Quintin Mikell, Bradie James, Terence Newman, LaRon Landry, London Fletcher ... you guys fill out the rest of the list.

man when espn talks I yawn, gimme a break when I saw d-ware that low I just scrolled down here to right this. Fword espn and anyone who repersent's/associated with it...
