ESPN Mosley: Who put the "I" in Iupati?...Jerry and Stephen blurb

If we get this guy I am going to be as giddy as I have over a pick in a long, long time.

I can't remember Dallas ever actually getting a "combine giddy causing player" but I hope you are right.

Best part about this draft is that we'll essentially be putting out two draft classes.

With that said, don't be afraid to trade up if there is a player we really like that fits what we try to do. We're gonna be rolling out 15 guys come TC, not all of them are going to make the team. I'm all about stock piling talent and finding gems, but this draft class is competiting with last years - and lets face it, rookies rarely see the field with Wade.

I have never seen dude play, but from what I read he could come in and help Dallas right away.

The best part is his value lies as a late first rounder, early 2nd rounder. Any team in the top 20 picks that have line trouble will more than likely take a tackle prospect, or have much more pressing needs than a guard in the first round. I think he's there at 27 and I think we take him. Someone mentioned San Francisco, they need a guard and a right tackle, but a tackle foremost. Their first two picks will likely be secondary and OT. I wouldn't be surprised if they took Earl Thomas with one of their picks.

New England Patriots, G: John Hannah, (4th overall) of the 1973 NFL Draft.

Hutchinson at 17.

Hannah was obviously longer than 10-15 years ago.

But here is the history in the first round during that time frame:

2007 - 29th overall Ben Grubbs to Baltimore
2006 - 23rd overall Davin Joseph to Tampa Bay
2005 - 32nd overall Logan Mankins to New England
2002 - 32nd overall Kendall Simmons to Pittsburgh
2001 - 17th overall Steve Hutchinson to Seattle
1998 - 26th overall Alan Faneca to Pittsburgh
1997 - 10th overall Chris Naeole to New Orleans
1996 - 21st overall Pete Kendall to Seattle; 23rd overall Jeff Hartings to Detroit; 25th overall Jerome Mayberry to Philadelphia
1995 - 14th overall Ruben Brown to Buffalo
1993 - 19th overall Lester Holmes to Philadelphia

Historically, guard is undervalued versus the tackle position. Most of the time college programs put the better athletes at tackle because it is so crucial.

You will also notice there is a very low bust ratio involved with picking the position in the first. Normally, those taken in the first tend to have long and productive careers. Several of these were perennial All Pros/Pro Bowlers (Hutchinson, Faneca, Brown).

I have a feeling that Iupati will be next. Whether he makes it to our choice is rather iffy.

As long as we take him with the knowledge that he is an INTERIOR lineman and not a tackle. He probably could be decent at RT, but that is about all.

I do not think there is much doubt about that. He showed at the Senior Bowl that he would be a liability (at least right now) at left tackle.

It's much more likely Mays will go in the first than Thomas will fall to 27.

I think where Mays goes will shock some people.

Mid-2nd to the Pats.

Just guess but I think the shock being referred to is the shock of seeing the guy go way higher than expected.

He's a physical freak, someone at the combine will fall in love with him.

"What's that?"

"How big?"

"How fast?"

"He played where?"

"Move, move now! I want this 'Sailor Ray' on my team"

"Al, its 'Taylor Mays'"

"Pick em both then, get me Mays and that Sailor"

Coverage-wise he is Bad Roy circa 2006-2008.
Which makes me wonder why anyone would want him as a safety. The days of his kind are just about over. Whoever drafts Mays needs to make him a linebacker.

he'll be gone by #20 IMO but I'd love to be wrong...If I was the Lions I'd trade down(twice if possible) and take this guy. He's a nice, strong anchor for Stafford.

What about Shawn Andrews - wasn't he drafted to play Guard, even though he may have been a tackle in college.
