Doofuses havent made the Capers to Winston Moss connection yet, but there are a couple of interesting tidbits in this:

Do Cowboys need D coordinator search?
January, 3, 2011 Jan 36:27PM CTEmail Print Comments By Tim MacMahonIRVING, Texas -- Jason Garrett praised the job Paul Pasqualoni did as the Cowboys’ defensive coordinator in the final eight games, pointing to the circumstances.

But Garrett, who danced around questions about his future as a head coach, did not offer any hints about whether he’d want to keep Pasqualoni as the defensive coordinator.

“When you look at it on the whole, he was put in a difficult situation in the middle of the year and tried to implement some of the changes we wanted to do,” Garrett said. “I thought he handled the situation well. I thought our players responded to him.

“I think we need to get better on defense. There is no question about that.”

Garrett said that it was ultimately his decision to appoint Pasqualoni as the defensive coordinator after Phillips’ firing, although he discussed the issue with Jerry Jones. Garrett said that he had not had discussions with Pasqualoni about whether he might continue being the defensive coordinator.

Dom Capers would probably be Garrett’s first pick, which is why the Cowboys tried to sign him as a consultant in 2008. However, Capers has built a top-five defense in Green Bay and not available due to his contract with the Packers.

Give Capers the Asst Head Coach title. That would be a promotion. Probably will not be able to talk to him until the Packers are eliminated.

Supposedly they have eliminated that route of promotion in luring away coordinators. I can't keep it straight though.

Can't say for certain, but I think the NFL changed the rule on this a few years ago.

No coach under contract has to be given permission by it's team to interview for any job offered by another team unless it's a HC gig.

So as I understand it, we can't even hire a position coach under contract as our DC unless the team he's with says it's ok.

Of course I do think most teams most of the time allow position coaches to interview for and leave for legit Coordinator positions.

The NFL did this to stop all the BS promotions like you suggested.

If we can't get Capers I'd like to see Mike Nolan get the nod.

Isn't Capers' contract up after this season? I can't see them letting him walk, but there is apparently a connection between Garrett and Capers.

Google search came up with nothing on the length of Capers' contact.

Is Timmy Mac talking about Dom's contract?

Green Bay is in the playoffs, so none of their coaches can interview for jobs even if they do have expiring contracts unless the team green lights it.

I don't think they would right now.

I haven't been able to find anything about Dom Capers' contract status.

Come on, we're talking about Tim McMahon here. Not like the guy does any real research.

The NFL allows certain windows for teams assistants to interview for HC jobs, they made this change several yrs ago IIRC.

I dont think Moss would really be interviewing for the HC job, rather I think he migh be a DC candidate.

Not really sure I agree with that, although I'm sure the league likes the rule because it prevents coaches from leaving for a higher-paying position with another team. Teams don't have to bid for their services, like they do with players.

Of course, that's understandable because the coaches are under contract, but it seems somewhat wrong to me for a person to be prohibited from leaving for a better-paying job.

So is Jerry hiring another coordinator without having a HC again ?

My chrystal ball says:

HC Jason Garrett
OC Paul Chryst
DC Winston Moss

Those picks in your sig would be a major step in the right direction also.

Isn't it convenenient that the Jerry puppet master theorists are mute. Hired Wade to overtly control, same with Garrett? None of that is proving true.

Let this sink in, Garrett pulled the trigger on Pasqualoni. Very anti-stereotypical Jerry action isn't it. Maybe we fans don't have an equitable perspective because we don't work at Valley Ranch? I know I am posing a radical theory here....

He is the DC in Miami. As far as I can tell Tony Sparano isn't going anywhere, so I'm pretty sure Nolan isn't available then too.

Who exactly were they going to hire mid-season that knew something about the current defense already? Pasqualoni has DC experience and has been with the team for some time. He was pretty much the only choice for DC for the remainder of the season.
