For Crennel it would be a move to a team with a storied past, not just a lateral move. That's why coaches want to go to San Fran, Pitt, NYFG, Dallas, etc. Sometimes it's about being part of the heritage. The Browns aren't even in the same light as the Fins.
The Browns DO have a storied past.

When I say storied, I'm talking about championships and number of appearances in the SB. I know the player lineage and incredible games vs. the Broncos, but those are flashes in the pan, IMHO, compared to other franchises.
Paul Brown
Otto Graham
Jim Brown
Lou Groza
Marion Motley
Dante Lavelli
Paul Warfield
Leroy Kelly
Ozzie Newsome

15 HOFs in all. Four AAFC Championships, Four NFL Championships. So they don't have a Super Bowl appearance. The Carolina Panthers do and have nowhere near the history the Browns do.

The league did not start in 1970,as some are wont to believe.

Crennell has really turned this team into shape. The Browns are the most improved team from last year, unquestionably. I personally hope he stays there and finishes the great job he's started. I have always like the Browns.

I doubt it, I think it was more Phil Savage putting the roster together and their Ocoordinator

So he hasn't done a good job?

Wade didn't put this team together yet he is mentioned routinely as a head coach of the year candidate.

he has done a good job, I just think a couple people have had a greater impact than him

Wade has been a successful coach before, but it was just a year ago that Crennel was a bumbling fool

wade was also considered a bumbling fool at one time too. He was one of the coaches that Ted Thompson interviewed before he hired McCarthy and Packer Nation wanted no part of him. What was the reaction here and throughout Cowboy World when he was hired? Were most people excited or were they like Packer fans were when MM was hired? Upset

you could do worse than Wade, alot worse, he has a good record, and every team he's coached I believe, has made the postseason in his 1st year, I think it's like 4 teams now, they've also increased their sacks by 20% the 1st year

and regarding your question, alot of people liked the Wade hire because we were anticipating a great year from our D, the one hire most absolutely did not want to see was Norval Turner

I bet Wade's never had a team that looked as inept as that one that played in Chicago last week.

FloridaRob?

I remember that his job as head coach in Denver was not well thought of. Wasn't he fired there after one or two years. And while he had success in Buffalo, he mismanaged the QB situation with JOhnson and Flutie and that didn't help him. He had one of those stigmas on him that he was a great defensive coordinator but was not head coaching material. Kind of like a Ray Rhodes type....He has proven that wrong with the job he has done in Dallas this year....But even with the success in Dallas, there are some here that would rather JJ fire him in order to keep Jason Garrett from getting a job elsewhere.

I never really heard that, but I guess it's true because Wade thought he would never get another coaching job again, but again, he's more head coaching material than alot of the fools being hired lately

ah

but I think it's safe to say Wade has had a better head-coaching run than Romeo Crennel has had before this year

Wade has been a solid head coach wherever he has been. He lost the play-offs in Buffalo based upon a fluke play, and his time in Denver was really marked by John Elway simply wantuing Shanahan. But Elway put up huge numbers while in Denver, and Denver wasn't that shabby for the players they had.

Wade has pretty much gotten a bum wrap.

after their first two years in the league, I don't think either one of them were special. It takes time and players.......

Wade was fired in Buffalo because he refused to fire his Special Teams coach. Although Ralph Wilson contends that he didn't fire Wade, Wade quit. They made a big deal about it prior to the Buffalo game this season.
