The Eagles will bring in veteran Miles Austin for a visit this week and plan on signing him if he passes the physical, according to the NFL Network.

Austin, 30, spent last season with the Cleveland Browns after eight years with the Dallas Cowboys. Austin made the Pro Bowl in 2009 and 2010, although he has dealt with injuries in recent seasons. Austin has played 16 games in a season just once since 2010.

If the Eagles sign Austin, he would provide needed depth to a wide receiving corps that needs a boost after the loss of Jeremy Maclin. The Eagles are counting on Riley Cooper, Jordan Matthews, and Josh Huff. Coach Chip Kelly is optimistic about the depth in the wide receiver class this year, calling it the deepest position in the draft. An Austin signing would not be to replace Maclin, but would give the Eagles another option at the position.

Austin, who is 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds, is from Summit, N.J., and played college football at Monmouth. He turns 31 on June 30.

Austin may not pass physical

Hayes: The Eagles' great unknowns

Domowitch: Marcus Smith a $6 million mistake?

He fits their system nicely....he has the height and speed, and they want to throw him short open passes and let him run with it. When healthy, that's his best trait, running with the ball in the secondary.

Yup. Run drag routes and comebacks all day, be a read on an option/misdirection play. Short pass, get some YAC.
