Anyone want to venture a guess as to which way the Raiders will vote on keeping or voiding the current CBA?

insane. is there any way they can still afford the #4 pick or is Jerry getting ready to trade up?

It was either Pasquerelli or Clayton on ESPN, but one of them said today the Raiders have no intention of trading out of the 4th pick

im starting to think its gonna be real hard to resign Newman next year. jeez it might not even be in the best interest of the team to resign him cap wise especially considerin other players we have to resign and his age...

I'd prefer to draft a CB & WR with our 2 picks in the first round but of course it all depends whose available when our turn comes up. I'd grab our RB in the 2nd round but probably will have to move up to get him. In 3rd round I'd grab another CB like Godfrey if he still there or even Justin King. We should be set for the future. As for re-signing Newman after this season is over, we got to remember that Henry's contract ends after 09 season & Cowboys probably won't make any effort re-sign him unless he willing take less particularly if our 2 younger CBs (should we draft 2 or even a 3rd late in the draft) do well in 08. I think Cowboys will do everything they can to keep Newman cause doubt they want to go with youngsters in 09.

so... anyone object drafting two corners with our first two picks? if two of the top 5 are still available?

absolutely object...we dont really HAVE to draft a CB with either of the 1st picks, much less both

I would like us to take 2 DB's in the draft, but not the first two picks... unless McKelvin is there at 22 and DRC is there at 28, then I might make an exception. ;)

I wouldn't go two corners that high unless it was a combo of DRC/McKelvin/Jenkins. Even that would depend on who is still on the board.

No way Newman is worth that kind of change (especially when he'll be 30).

Good news is, Henry, 1st rounder, mid rounder (hopefully) could be similar talent wise to the trio of Ross, Webster, Madison.

These contracts are insane. I am no cap expert, but can the Raiders really make all these moves AND sign somebody like McFadden?

70 million?

Wonder how much will void with 2 or 3 years left on the deal?

Im guessing 32-35.

Should have just signed him to a 500 million dollar contract and voided the extra 430 million right along with it.

Contract totals are pointless. No way in hell that Hall, Clements or any other player who gets all these high numbers will see all it. The smart players are the ones who take a lesser total but have a great chance of earning more cause of the higher possibility of staying on the team.

I am just about with you on letting Newman walk if the money is going to be like this. Hopefully he'll be more accomodating.
The one thing that is encouraging is what we signed Flozell for. With the way things have worked out, he's being compensated well, but for his talent we basically stole him.

And maybe that's how the market is working for players over 30.

I trust that we can find a way to resign him to a contract that can't hurt the team. I also feel that it would be in our best interest to prepare this offseason like we don't stand a chance in hell of resigning him.

Right...so we're going to go from this year in dire need of Cornerback depth, and a quality 3rd corner, but next year Jerry is just going to turn around and make the situation even worse by letting his best corner walk.

Riiiiiiggggghhhhhtttt...

I don't care which two CBs you get in the first round NEITHER of them will be ready to step in and be as good a corner in their second year as TNew already is.

TNew will get his money, and so will Ware when it's time, and they will get it because they're in 2 of the 3 positions that you simply can not take the "We can pay a guy a lot less money to do what they're doing" approach.

CB, Pass rusher, and QB. You simply can't take the "I don't want to spend market value on these so I'll just take a cheaper option here."

You can do that at RB. You can do that at DE and DT and to some extent you can even do it at WR and get away with it to some degrees. But CB, QB, and Pass Rusher you simply can't just go with the "I'll just plug anyone in and go with it" mentality.
