Just watch All-22 and you see the problems.

I have yet to see him be able to use quality footwork and step into a throw in the empty backfield set. It's not because the O-Line doesn't provide him time. It's because he doesn't move his feet properly. And to make matters worse, we keep using empty backfield.

He's not seeing WR's that are open and his velocity and accuracy are off.

He's becoming a QB where he only throws it effectively when they play breaks down (i.e. Denver game).

At this stage of his career with his age, the team really needs to be conscious about his play dropping off tremendously. I remember when Jordan was with the Wizards you would see flashes of his old self for maybe a game or a half of a game, but he could not string anything together. I think last year he struggled in the 1st half just as much as he has struggled now, but he turned it around tremendously in the 2nd half of the season. I just think that with his age he's just going to get to the point where there are no more 'turning things around.'

Of course, if you say that...you're a Romo hater that has some sort of vendetta against the guy.

There's a reason why Jerry mentioned this. And there's a reason why Tony agreed. It's all showing up on film and it's easy to see if you're not some blind lemming for Romo or if you cannot see past the 2nd half of last season.

The footwork issue is frightening to consider. He should not be having this problem this far into his career.
What is Wade Wilson there for?

The Cowboys have converted just eight of their last 36 third down passing attempts, which include a 0-9 stretch against the Saints. The Cowboys have also misfired on their last 12 third-down pass plays, with the last conversion coming in the third quarter of a tight victory against the Minnesota Vikings on Nov. 3.

These type stats are usually associated with some pretty bad teams.

A. Great post.

B. I've never seen a QB more reliant on plays breaking down than Tony and it seems to be getting worse this year. Although Tony is one of the best in the history of the game at waiting and creating time for these breakdowns to occur, he is far too dependent on them IMO. His lengthy pre-snap process is clearly dedicated to flushing out / anticipating those breakdowns. Which is great to a point, Peyton has made it an art form, but Peyton more often than not, will make quick strikes after those long counts, something Tony does rarely other than in 2 minute scenarios. It would be difficult to prove, but there has to be some element of post-snap play timing predictability that defenses are using to their advantage against Tony, especially on 3rd down.

This is one of the reasons Tony has had issues in the redzone IMO - there isn't time or space for those break down plays to develop, Dez's jump ball ability and or double / triple teaming (opening up Williams) has really been the main perhaps sole reason this has turned around recently, but more decisive quick throws like that slant to Williams in Philly are what's needed.

It's kind of the antithesis of a quick strike offense at this point which is why we seem to have so many problems on 3rd down, and throw so many dump-offs or stupid, low percentage, vertical shots - Tony doesn't seem comfortable throwing quick darts over the middle, so he back peddles and dumps off, gets sacked or throws weak balls to the outside off his back foot. That's essentially what the Saints game looked like on film.

Tony has been having issues since he broke his collar bone. It starting showing up last season as he was losing accuracy down field and the pics were piling up. In the second half of last year they adjusted routes to a more west coast style featuring short passes with RAC making up the bulk of the plays, we had some good success. Then the skins began moving people up to attack the short stuff and play run/short pass first and that game ended poorly.

This year all teams are taking the short pass/run away and giving us a chance to go deep sideline, we don't go there. Fisher for some reason decided to play us deep and try to control Dez, and we had good success.

The good news, I expect us to show up in NY with new formations and some varied routes giving us a shot, if Tony is half way accurate down field we could do some damage.

IRVING, Texas -- Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said quarterback Tony Romo needs more production and that he can't have another game like he did against the New Orleans Saints. Jones, of course is talking about Tony Romo, who is coming off a distasteful effort where he completed 10 of 24 passes for 128 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions in a 49-17 loss to the Saints two weeks ago. Romo, when told about Jones' comments, agreed.

Is Jones ever going to openly say Jason Garrett needs to do more or is he going to conitnue to lavish praise on this clown and tell us how JG has put us in position to win the division? And yes, I used the term 'us' cause if Garrett can get credit for doing nothing, so can I...

This is the part in the article that really made my jaw drop.

I guarantee that if you go back to Garrett's career here as OC, you'll find similar stretches on a consistent basis. Down and distance on third has been his forte...

Jerry - "Listen Tony, if you don't throw for at least 350 yards and 4 touchdowns every...single...game...chances are we won't win a game much less make the playoffs."

Tony - "No ****, Jerry. What else is new?"

False

Tony Romo did not play well against New Orleans. But I wouldn't try to make that look like a trend. I have lookd at the all-22 for the past few games. Romo was a mixed bag against Detroit. He was very good against Minnesota. A couple of misfires against Minnesota, but many more were catchable balls that were dropped. If his receivers had caught everything close, he would have thrown for 450 yards.

Back to New Orleans, he was subpar, and needs to get better, but overall he has played well this year, and the numbers bear that out. Even if he had played great against New Orleans, however we still probably would have lost because we counldn't stop anyone. My opinion of Romo is that he is at his best if we can be balanced and he only has to throw it 20 to 30 times per game with a lot of those being either playaction or down the field type throwing. That is his strength.

I've felt for years that Romo was to QB'ing as Barry Sanders was to being an RB. And that's not a compliment. Sanders had a knack for making his O-Line look worse than it was. I think Romo doesn't do the O-Line any favors by being so predictable on audibles and by waiting to the last second to snap the ball. That allows the defense to go through their checks and switches to disguise the blitzing and the coverages. That's one of the positives of the hurry up, it prevents those good blitzing teams from being able to disguise stuff. Particularly if that good blitzing team struggles against the run. Now you can just snap the ball quickly and run at them man up. If you wait forever to snap the ball, then the defense can overcome those issues with disguising the schemes.

I've been fairly happy with the O-Line play this year. It's not the '91 Commanders, but it's been pretty solid and has given Romo a lot of time. And he seems lost as to what to do. In the past it wasn't that way as he was absolutely deadly when he would step up into the pocket and fire. I know he's discussed hanging back in the pocket like Brady, but even he slides up into the pocket and for whatever reason, he's better sliding horizontally than Romo does. The guy that Romo should have been following more closely is Brees. Same type of body size, mobility, arm strength and accuracy. Yet, he's trying to follow Brady who is a slow and big dude with a much stronger arm (very underrated arm strength).

I've gotta wonder where Wade Wilson falls into all of this. As a QB coach he should try and find what works for Romo based on size and abilities, not trying to make one size fits all. It's like teaching 1 way to swing a golf club instead of finding the swing that works best for that particular golfer.

Omg, a QB saying he wants to produce more? Wow, what a special guy. I've never heard this before in my life.

What is Wade Wilson there for?

Our HC is a retired NFL qb. He should know proper mechanics for a qb. JG should be drilling mechanics and footwork into Tony's brain. It's unacceptable.

Romo should just go all out like he did in the Broncos game, ignore the Ginger completely and call his own plays.

They made a good point on the Ticket this morning. It's not JG that has us in position to win the division, it's the DIVISION that has us in position to win the division.

I've been the biggest supporter of Romo over the last few years but I agree with what you're saying. I've also noticed that his performance is dropping and I'm concerned he may be on the down slide of a brilliant yet unproductive (in terms of championships) career.
