fwiw Mark Schlereth is picking us to upset the Steelers. he was on Mike and Mike this morning and said he was picking us. he thinks with the aggressiveness of Pitts D combined with our O-line and Romo will equal a few big plays for us. he thinks the Steelers offense is gonna have a harder time dealing with our D rather than our offense dealing with the Steeler D.

That should be the case. We need some pressure, protect Romo, run well enough to keep them honest, and protect the ball. Basic recipe for tough ball.

Snipped from his chat yesterday..

Mike (Boca Raton): steelers cb william gay seemed to acquit himself well during bryant mcfadden's absence. do you think having mcfadden and townsend healthy, in addition to gay, will substantially help v. dallas this weekend?

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson : For sure and also a good sign for the future as Townsend isn't a youngster anymore and McF is up for UFA. Also, could be invaluable against teams like Indy come playoff time. Remember though, PGH's pass rush is the best in the league and makes those guys on the backend's job much easier than it would be on other teams.

M (DC): How long before Plaxico joins Packman, Tank, and TO in Dallas?

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson : Of course Dallas popped into my mind, but after trading for Roy W, that just doesn't make sense.

Luke (St. Louis): How do you rank this Pittsburgh Defense with the very best of all time because not allowing 300 yards in any game is outstanding.

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson : They are clearly the best in the league. Too early to rank them vs. the best all time, but I also think we will hear more and more of that kind of talk. I live in the Burgh and am 35 years old and probably put this D over any that I saw from 1980 on or so...which is saying something. That 1995 D was awesome with Lake, Woodson, Kirkland, Lloyd, Greene, Brown, Steed, etc.

Sean Atlantic City NJ: Who are your 3 nfc pro bowl quarterbacks?

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson : Warner and Brees HAVE to go. Eli almost has to be the third. That is tough on Rodgers and Ryan, but so be it. Also, Romo is having a monster year and has a chance to go for sure. Wow, brutal quesion!

LaRoy, Carrboro: Could you see Peppers moved to a rush lb spot later in his career like Dallas did Greg Ellis?

sn2.gif
Matt Williamson : He could do it for sure. No question in my mind. By the way, J Allen needs to be mentioned in that 4-3 DE conversation as well. He was really something the other night as well.

The Matchup is for DB's not CBs.

What he quoted then responded to said CB.

But even at DB overall having Pacman back and Newman healthy likely means a Dallas edge. Season stats are nice but the match up is for this week not the season.

I'd agree Polumalu is the best overall DB in the group but after that it is Newman then Pacman then Hamlin. The problem in Dallas is Pacman and Newman haven't been playing together yet.

1 Watch out for Ware: ROLB DeMarcus Ware had a huge game on Thanksgiving, abused LT Walter Jones with regularity and registered three sacks. It is fair to say that he will face lesser tackles than Jones this week. Either way, his pure speed, length and athletic ability matched with his ability to set up blockers gives him a massive advantage over the Steelers' offensive tackles. Not only is Ware extremely dangerous, but so are the outside linebackers on the other side. Charles Spencer and Greg Ellis are also exceptional up field players, who clearly have an advantage over the Steelers' tackles, but giving help to the player opposite Ware will be difficult to accomplish.

<snip.

Weird they have a Watch out for Ware but segment but they don't say Watch out for Harrison.

what?

Umm. the 83 raiders, 84 49ers, 85 bears, 86 giants, 89 49ers, 90 giants, eagles, 91 eagles, 92 cowboys.....

I will just stop there. I mean simply check the calendar. the 07 giants defense has accomplished more.

This guy needs his head examined.

I wanna think he's referring to Steelers' defenses since 1980 and not NFL defenses.

But if nothing else, now we know why his matchup is so slanted..

oh!

that went right over my head and makes sense.

Anyone who would honestly say that is the best defense since 1980 is a whacko.

not only do I see us getting 3 turnovers in this game and shut Ben & Co. down for 16 points, I think Romo to Witten/Bennett/RW/Barber will have us moving thru the air to the tune of 24 points. I will not be surprised to see Choice break off some big runs again, either. We'll come out of this game clearly back in the playoff mix with a convincing win on the road...

I don't think many outside of Steeler nation think Ben is as good as Tony. Ben is a very good QB. Tony is nearly in a league of his own.

I wouldnt put him in the category of Brady or Manning just yet, but he's getting there. Just has to show in the post season for his critics cause he has such a long history of choking in the big games.

I read a post by a guy on a steeler thread that estimated that the outcome of a poll of all NFL fans would result in a 70/30 ROLFsberger/Romo choice.

Let's just say I'd be willing to put some money on the table that that, indeed, is not the case.

There's even some quantifiable data to support that -- on Mike and Mike this morning, they were listing off the highest selling jerseys currently...

Romo was number two, behind Brett Fav-ruh. MBIII was number five. Oh yeah.

You know what stands out more than these numbers?

His discription of each QB and how they are playing. It sounded like he was drinking Tony's bath water. I mean serious high praise as if he was touting him for MVP. He wasn't as flattering on Ben.

To read the article, you'd think QB advantage Pitt was a typo.

OMT - Romo's YPA 8.5, Roth's YPA 7.0 OUCH!

I think bias prevents alot of people from admitting how good Romo is. It's not that they don't know he's ridiculous, they just can't bring themselves to admit it because they don't want it to be true.

True. He's one of the most hated guys there is.

1. He's the QB for the Dallas Cowboys.
2. He's dated Carrie Underwood and Jessica Simpson and whether intentionally or not, constantly puts himself in the limelight away from the field.
3. He carries himself with an attitude that we find joyable in the form of a child, others find arrogant.

And their excuse is always "He's a choker" blah blah blah.
