Terence Newman signs with Vikings

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota Vikings and cornerback Terence Newman have agreed to terms on a one-year contract worth as much as $2.5 million, including $750,000 guaranteed, that will reunite the veteran with coach Mike Zimmer for his 13th NFL season.

Terence Newman joins a Vikings secondary in need of more depth.
The Vikings announced the deal Friday with Newman, who spent the past three years with Cincinnati after nine with Dallas. Zimmer, entering his second season with Minnesota, was Newman's defensive coordinator for six years: four with the Cowboys and two with the Bengals.

Newman, who was drafted by Dallas with the fifth overall pick out of Kansas State in 2003, has 37 career interceptions, the third most among active players in the NFL.

The production and stability at cornerback for the Vikings was better in 2014, but that's still a position where they could use more depth with Xavier Rhodes, Captain Munnerlyn and Josh Robinson their leading returning players.

Newman has been relatively durable, averaging 15 games per season. He is a two-time Pro Bowl pick with 11 fumble recoveries, eight fumbles forced and 169 pass breakups over his career.

How old is he now, 74?

Just kidding, best of luck to him. Honestly never knew he'd be playing this long. Good for him.

He's always been talented. He just couldn't stay healthy enough; and was asked to play injured.

And amazing he's started for Cincy for 3 straight years. Claiborne might be All Pro if we cut him!

He had a few good years here, just maybe not the kind of years you'd want for a top 5 pick.

Well at least hes was only a 5 pick and played good here. On the other hand claiborne. That pick still pisses me off.

Terrence Newman is the Benjamin Button of the NFL. He was old as a rookie in 2003.

I am hoping for a comeback year for Mo. For whatever reason, he was immature when he got here, and he still was last year. I hope getting hurt and benched and all the negative comments has made him mature a little....maybe he can refocus on football and be a team player this year?

I am not holding my breath though. Gobs of money will allow an immature person to remain immature...

I never expected to see Newman still in league. He looked like he was on his last leg in Dallas. Now Cincy very good front 4 helped things for sure.

Bollox, once he got hurdled by that Giants FB, it was the end. Sometimes a player needs a new location for a kick in the A.

Hynoski the FB, and Bear Pascoe the TE hurdled him too.
