SOURCES: COWBOYS UNCERTAIN JASON WITTEN WILL PLAY VS. FALCONS

Ed Werder

Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten is receiving treatment for two sprained ankles and a sprained knee, and it is not certain he will be available for Sunday's home game against the Atlanta Falcons, league sources told ESPN.

"[Witten] will be day-to-day all week, but he's not a lock [to play] at this point," a source said.

Witten insisted he was fine after Sunday's victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, referring to the injuries as "typical football stuff."

Witten, who is known for his high pain tolerance, missed one game early in his career with a broken jaw. He also insisted on playing in this year's season opener against the New York Giants after rupturing his spleen in the preseason.

Witten's 133 consecutive starts rank first among active NFL tight ends, and only Houston Texans punter Shane Lechler (208) has played in more consecutive games than the 189 straight he has appeared in for the Cowboys, according to ESPN Stats & Information.

ESPN Cowboys reporter Todd Archer contributed to this report.

No way he misses a game.

Although he does need to come off the field every once in a while for his own good. You're not getting any younger big fella.

The only positive is that it will make Linehan/Garrett actually use two other TE's.........me may see what their worth is in the long run.

With that said, I want Witt out there!

Please correct title.

The source apparently doesn't know Witten very well. He could have his legs amputated at the knee Thursday and would still be on the field Sunday.

He should take a break this week and heal; his injuries will
Just get worse and he won't be available when really needed. He isn't young in football age either, Escobar has to step up to that 2nd round pick sooner or later; let him run Wittens routes and other guy play hjs. Stick Witten in periodically if they must but otherwise let him rest.

Yo! Football Gods!

You forgot Terrance Williams....that should complete the offensive skill position starters from last season.

I mean, let's get it all over and done with now so long as you are going to curse the team this season.
