what's the big thing Wade wants? A ring. We all love to play the "IF" game, so IF the Boys win the championship this year, would it be easier to "ask" Wade to consider a change? That's putting the cart before the horse, but...

He signed a 3 year contract.

Again, has a coach who has won 13 Games ever been asked to take a demotion and become a coordinator, so a young an unproven assistant could take his place?

There is no doubt in my mind that if we won the Super Bowl, Wade Phillips would be fired up about trying to repeat.

You're right. FIRE HIM NOW!!!

Since you can't retort with anything other than hyperbole, I'll just assume you have nothing left to counter argue with.

Garrett has a lot of things going for him in the PR department .. mainly that he went to an Ivy League school, he's got some very recognizable friends like Troy who have the public platform in the media to lobby for him, and in Dallas he's tied to 'glory days' ... which always carries a lot of weight. It also helps to be young and still have that 'new car smell', because you haven't been around long enough to have any blemishes on your record. That's how guys like Marty Morningwig get HC jobs (and ask Eric Mangini how fleeting that "young genius' moniker can be). But in the end, it doesn't take a young genius to take a top 5 offense and a Pro Bowl QB and morph them into a ... top 5 offense and Pro Bowl QB. Garrett, to his credit, did a very good job of not screwing an ideal situation up. And I think he's intelligent enough to know that if he goes to a franchise with a bad QB situation that his stock is going to drop faster than Enron next year, so i don't see him jumping ship for any currently known job opening. The NYG's might have been another matter.

Has that ever happened before?

I think it would be very foolish to demote a Heach Coach to Defensive Coordinator when he just led your club to 12 Wins.

Not to mention the damage he may do in the Playoffs.

Why is it relevant if it has ever happend before???

Garrett has played a large role this year in what is the most improved aspect of this team - the offense. They have gone from a run and TRY to control the clock and not manage to lose team, to an aggressive, killer instinct offensive team that takes no prisoners.

The defense (Wades' specialty) has improved, but nowhere near to the degree the offense has.

Wade said himself less than one year ago - he never expected to ever be a headcoach again. Luckily for him, he fell into this job.

The long-term however will definitley include Garrett and perhaps.......Wade.

Historical precedence is very important.

The idea that a 13 Win coach would actually take a demotion (unless he fails miserably in the Playoffs) is kind of silly and it probably hasn't happened and probably never will. Especially a guy that is under contract and the person replacing him would be an uproven assistant.

Yes, Wade Phillips said he never thought he would get another chance again. That has nothing to do with whether he would take a demotion or how long he will coach. He was just expressing his opinion that since he didn't do much at his other stops, he didn't think the opportunity would present itself again.

If anything, Wade Phillips' words should be more of an indication that he is going to ride this latest stop for all it is worth because he knows Head Coaching jobs are not that easy to obtain.

As far as Jason Garrett, no use re-inventing the wheel, so see InmanRoshi's post, which I agree completely.

The guy has us prime and prepped for a Super Bowl run and folks already have his pink slip, typeed up, signed, enveloped, stamped and ready to deliver.

Wow :D

Your argument is so ridiculous, it doesn't deserve a counter.

But since you asked...

So since Garrett couldn't work wonders as QB coach with Daunte Culpepper and Joey Harrington in Miami, and only had success when Tony Romo was executing the plays, then he doesn't deserve any credit? Puhlease. You can't honestly believe that.

I guess none of Romo's limited struggles this season were Romo's fault. I guess none of those 5 picks in Buffalo were his fault. I guess Garrett deserves no credit for continuing to call the plays to put us in position to win that game.

I guess since he had one game where we were left wondering what happened to the run game, he doesn't deserve any credit for an offense being rated 2nd in points, 2nd in yards, 4th in passing and 12th in rushing. I guess that's ALL Romo.

What do you think about the fact that we are probably the best 2nd half offense in the league? Think that's all Romo? If Romo is the only reason for that, I guess Garrett is to blame for the slow starts in the first half of games.

OR... maybe Garrett has at least a small part in all of the success we've had. Maybe he should be credited for innovative play calling, in his first year of actually doing that. Maybe he should be credited for making halftime adjustments to what the opposition was doing. What do you think?

Meh, if Garrett were to leave, Dallas would be just fine. I mean, look at the offense: Romo, Barber, T.O, Witten... Their success is due to talent more than it is due to the "genius" of Garrett.

And really, if he leaves, it could potentially be a good thing. Get someone in here who wants to run the ball.

It's perfectly clear to me that we disagree as to who is more responsible for where this team stands right now.

Further, I'm talking about when Wade's contract is up, not next year.

When his contract is up, care to guess what his age will be?

I'm looking towards the future, specifically, 2 years from now. This, people have his "pink slip, typed up, signed, enveloped, stamped and ready to deliver" jargon is ridiculous.

I'm thinking perhaps you might have misunderstood me.... but perhaps not.

i don't think garrett is just gonna take any job to be a headcoach.i think he would consider a job in new york because he has ties there but i'm not sure he would want the fins, or falcons type jobs.
he knows in i think 2 more years that wades gig is up and he is the new h.c. of dallas.
as long as we have him or sparano i think we are fine. we just don't want to loose both. i suspect bill will be looking at sparano for a job if he can get him

Yes Sarge we do disagree, nothing wrong with that.

I was specifically responding to this comment you made, which didn't have a timeline.

Wouldn't it be ironic if Garrett was our next HC and Wade was our next DC? One big happy family.......hmmmmmmmm.

As far as his age, he will be 63 years old at the start of a hypothetical 4th Season. There have been Head Coaches that old before.

Yep - there have been head coaches at the age of 63 years old before but by and large, their best years are by far, behind them.

Bottom line is, I think Garrett is a diamond in the rough and a true student of the game. It's a gamble I am willing to take and a LARGE part of that has to do with how old Wade is.

I have to TRULY wonder, where we would be record-wise this year, if Wade was headcoach and Garrett was not here.

We'll see how it all pans out but I am willing to bet, Garrett is our next HC. The question IMO, is how soon.

Nothing to see in this thread but old arguments with tire tracks on them.

I can just imagine what the wildcard weekend will bring.

:D Garrett belongs in Dallas. He was the QB for two of our greatest Thanksgiving day games ever. Anyone who remembers those games will have a special place in their heart for Garrett. ;) It's Destiny that he should be head coach.

And the one game against the Packers was especially nice.

this is the way werder seems to put our head coaching position.

It's like a Star Wars play...

Darth Sidious - Jerry Jones
Darth Maul - Bill Parcells
Darth Tyranus/Count Dooku - Wade Phillips
Anakin Skywalker - Jason Garrett

So, after Maul gets wiped from the face of the earth, Sidious looks to his new head coach...er...apprentice. Sidious sees a young guy, Anakin Skywalker, who would soon be awesome. However, Anakin's not ready. So, Sidious brings in Darth Tyranus to be his apprentice while Anakin gets ready. :D

So, when will Anakin kill Tyranus?

I wonder how realistic it would be to ask Wade to take a "step-down" to co-head coach, give Garrett the same title and let each one coach their side of the ball?

Pep, no offense, but you advocate Wade "step-down" to co-head coach and you think someone else's argument is ridiculous?

I think most have understood this all along. Yes, Jason, it wouldn't be prudent to just jump at the first opportunity that came along.

BUT...

That doesn't mean there are not other good situations that could entice him away and I really wonder if NYG isn't one of those.

We shall see...

(insert obligatory "Jerry will pay him handsomely to stay and wait his turn...)

Why would Garett go to freaking New York, what is so great about that team?

Lets see Elie "the bust" Manning throw the ball to all areas of the field:laugh2:

I am sure Garett wants a QB that just had like 50 incompletions, the most since like the 60s or something:laugh2:
