You know, being a cowboy fan can make you biased very easily. I don't think all that Sal said is accurate or right, but he's right on some things. T.O. has killed drives and opportunities big-time, with dropped balls. T.O's greatest asset is his big play capabilities threat, not his actual on the field production. And. T.O. can tear a team up, and he's all about himself no matter how he packages it. I'm from the same town that he played college ball. I think he's a good player, but the man does have some serious negatives as a player.
Saying he has serious negatives is a bit extreme. You don't score 129 TDs in the NFL with serious negatives. He has some negatives. He does drop a lot of passes, but not enough to say it is a serious negative.
Aren't "big plays" part of "actual on the field production"? Those big plays do occur on the field. TO averages 14.8 yards per reception, so I don't think he relies just on the big play. Michael Irvin averaged 15.9 yards per reception and he definitely was not reliant on just big plays.
Terry Glenn has much better hands than TO, but he is not near as good as TO. Crayton has better hands than TO as well, but he isn't close to TO.
TO is good. It is a fact. Like him or not and I don't like him. Actually, I don't trust him is a better way to put it. Overrated? That is a stretch. He is not underrated, either. He gets as much respect as he deserves.
If any receiver is overrated, it is Marvin Harrison and I am a fan of his. He truly is a player that disappears in the playoffs. His receptions per game and yards per game drop drastically in the playoffs from his lofty regular season numbers. He also has only scored 2 TDs in 15 post season games and both those came in the same game. No, I don't truly believe Harrison is overrated, but it is a similar argument for TO.
