ESPN's Week 1 Power Rankings

well i definitely don't agree with us being behind Chicago & Seattle. and i would think we're better than GB, Miami & Carolina.

however. i would prefer they keep us in the bottom half for as long as possible if it means the team takes that as motivation.

hopefully they don't play to their ranking.

why is it absurd?

we didnt even make the playoffs last year...

17 is about right.

pretty absurd, considering the Raiders are 30 and not #32.

Perfect. Let someone else get the hype. I much prefer the underdog role.

Week 1 power rankings: What are voters thinking?

Thanks to the master of the spreadsheet, NFC West blogger Mike Sando, we have the ballots of all four voters In the Week 1 power rankings. I want to make sure you guys know who to complain to when these guys continue to show disrespect to the upstart Commanders. It looks like all four voters are bullish on the Packers at this point. The voters are John Clayton, Jeff Chadiha, Mike Sando and Paul Kuharsky. I will be providing you with helpful e-mail addresses to reach out to these brave men at some point this evening. And I'll be second-guessing the power rankings along with you. Chadiha was the only voter who didn't make a single change from the power rankings heading into training camp. Everyone on the panel loved what the Packers did in the preseason and helped move them from No. 17 to No. 11 in the power rankings.

It should come as no surprise that the NFC East was the highest ranked division in the league with an average of 11.1. Clayton dropped the Cowboys five spots since the end of July. I didn't realize the Cowboys had such a poor training camp and preseason. He moved the Commanders up four spots. Kuharsky was also unimpressed with the Cowboys after making the pilgrimage to see JerryVision. He dropped them three spots since the July rankings.

As we've already mentioned, Chadiha didn't make a single change. This makes it much tougher to criticize him. I'm hoping that Jeff actually makes a change or two heading into the Week 2 rankings. Mike Sando is the primary reason the Eagles aren't a little higher than fourth. OK, we'll be back with much more later.

The NFL's pre-season power ranking are becoming as useless and cloudy as the NCAA's Pre-Season top 25.

I have no problem playing the underdog role when it has been earned, but I expect a little more respect than we are getting.

Some teams don't even deserve to be ranked ahead of us.

Pretty sure these power rankings are based on this year, not last year, right?

You're telling me you don't see at least 3 teams in front of the Cowboys that shouldn't be? Going by your criteria, what did Seattle do last season to deserve being in front of us?

I heard that Matt Hasselbeck's hair plug surgery went perfectly and he will be at full hair health when the season begins.

They base this off preseason? :laugh2:

Colts should be dead last then

Well then.. clearly Seattle has improved. Even if that hair plug surgery ends up having a failure midseason, you figure Houshmandzadeh can just cut off some of his and they can glue it to Hasselbeck's head.

Looking at power rankings the first 2 months of the NFL season are like looking at power rankings during the college basketball season before the NCAA tournament.

Someone please explain to me how the Packers can go 6-10 last year and have everyone riding their jockstrap?

WR Roy Williams is catching everything in practice despite a sore shoulder, but he needs big season for the offense to thrive. (Clayton)

***

That's basically all what Clayton's hanging his hat on--namely, failure at the #1 wide receiver position. What's his definition of a 'big season' ? Maybe... Terrell Owens-ish, perhaps?

Clayton would NEVER work that particular angle, would he?
