He had 36 tackles and 3 sacks

I think he did well and played better at the end of the season.

I'm happy with him, I half hope Ellis gets his wish and Spencer starts next season.

Hard to judge him based on last season because Ellis was in on most passing downs...so he didn't really have much of a chance.

I think he did quite well given that he wasn't the starter for 12 of the games. I think we're going to see him get more playing time this year, maybe even closer to an equal split with Greg, and then we'll really get to see what he can do. I was pleased with what he gave us in the playing time he had.

What got me was how good he was in coverage. That was a bit of a surprise. He'll be a fine pass-rusher.

He made some nice plays when on the field. Slammed Eli to the turf and made him leave the game. I think one of his sacks was against Philly. Stupid Eagles should have naver traded with us.:laugh2:

Ecstatic with him actually. I think if Ellis had not come back he'd have been a legit candidate for Defensive Rookie of the Year. It is better for us that he can be groomed a bit for the role.

In re-watching a few games, I found that he showed up even more than I remembered in real time -- and I liked him to start with. You could tell he was a rookie, because he'd disappear at times just like any rookie will when his head gets in the mixer. But when he showed up, he showed up really well. He's strong and smart and has a surprising burst to the ball once he gets going. I love how once he gets his hands on the ballcarrier, the guy goes down and usually goes down hard.

IMO we don't talk about this guy enough. I think he's going to be an excellent, quiet-type producer for us a lot like Tolbert was across from Haley.

Totally agree --I love the fact he got alot of playing time early. He made the adjustments--I think he is going to be a force paired with Ware ---Hate to hurt Ellis's feelings -
but -coverage and rushing --we will not miss Ellis when he is gone

He won't be a DeMarcus Ware, (not many are) but I think he will be a great player opposite Ware. We will have real defensive bookends for a long time to come with which is something we haven't had since Tolbert/Haley. Ware and Haley are comparable and I think Spencer will be quite a bit better than Tolbert.

with another offseason of strength and conditioning to go along with the mental aspect, he could have a good year. I think he doubles his sacks this season is a greater role but still behind Gregger.

A few weeks ago, DMN writer Albert Breer did his analysis of the Giants game. He stated that Spencer played the run much better then did Ellis and even Ware. I feel Spencer will really be a force this season; will get a lot of help from participation in our weight conditioning program. Wouldn't be surprised to see him get a lot more time in place of Ellis against the run. Although Wade has already said he needs to get Spencer on the field more.

Spencer was a really good pick...he is the future opposite Ware.

Now if I could have a pick back it would be in 2006...give me Cromartie over Carp.

Yeah you didn't hear?

He wants to move on to another team because Jerry didn't draft Spencer in the 1st round to sit on the bench.

I like Spencer, but I like Ellis, Spencer, Ware even better. Maybe move Ellis to pass rush specialist and let Spencer be every down player now.

Well, fiddle-dee-dee. That kinda attitude could backfire on him.
But I guess Ellis feels he could get more love and money and playing time elsewhere. Bless his heart.

If Ellis wouldn't have found his way back onto the field and Spencer be allowed to play every down, he would have been DROY.

I know that once Ellis returned the story became about his comeback from the injury, but prior to his return I was really pleased with Spencer, especially the first game of the season against the Giants when he got nice pressure on Eli including when he threw Eli down.
