Hurd is a loser. A true loser of a human being. It was mass distribution including cocaine as he told the undercover agents he wanted to be the #1 distributor in Chicago. Working with a murderous drug cartel in Mexico.

Loser.

A decade in prison for attempting to buy cocaine as someone with no previous criminal record seems excessive but I always had a soft spot for Hurd. I'm sure he'll turn his life around. I remember he was a popular player in the locker room when he was in Dallas.
He tried to buy five to 10 kilos of cocaine per week at $25,000 per kilo. But I too am surprised he got a 15 year sentence. He got lucky that they let him out early. There is no good time in federal prison. But I don't think he's totally free for the remaining 5 years. Just not in prison.

Not only excessive, but criminally destructive to deprive a person of 10 years of life (1/7 of an average lifespan) for attempting to purchase a chemical substance to get high. That is a human rights violation as well as cruel and unusual punishment.

I say this as someone who has never done any coke or other hard stuff. I'm not even an alcohol drinker.

Hurd turns 38 eight weeks from tomorrow (April 24th); he has a long life ahead of him to make amends from his lapses in judgement, and being incarcerated as a result.
He should reach out to George Gervin and David Robinson --- who were far more accomplished and bigger stars in their professional sport - but went on to be longstanding and contributing pillars in the Alamo City.

They've released Sam Hurd to my hometown in San Antonio -- I'm hoping he's a positive addition to this town. Many futures are at stake.

My next door neighbor lives in Sam’s former home when he was playing for the Cowboys.

Well if he doesn’t sell it how will the wealthy get their cocaine? From the government so they can tax it?

San Antonio is were I was raised (5th grade on through high school).
Hurd was born and grew up in SA - hence why he was directed to community confinement there upon his release.
He has the opportunity to reconnect with his roots, while speaking out to the youth in his community about avoiding the wrong choices\ paths in life -- despite achieving some fame and fortune.
