Ex-Virginia Tech quarterback donates $10K to families

dude made about $25 million last year, $10K is .004% of that! but ron mexico giving $10K (which equates to about $15 to someone making $50K a year) is not the issue to me, to me what is troubling is that he felt the need to issue a press release to announce it when that is in fact (speaking in percentages of income) less than i spend on girl scout cookies, never mind what i give to charity on a regular basis!! millions of people give a higher percentage of their income than that every single week in the offering plates of their church!! it smacks of a desperate attempt to prop up his image and when put in relation to what he is actually worth, it is pocket change and not worthy of celebration even though i readily conceed it is true that he didn't have to do anything!

What does it matter how much he was paid? He did not have to give a dime and if he gave from the heart then how much he gave really should not be an issue. So you can put away the percentage chart of what is acceptable and what is not.

The guys attacking Vick for giving just 10k should be more focused on questioning the alum that didnt give anything...

If all the alum who went on to be financilally successful all gave just 10k then there would be a large charitable donation.

If weeks from now Vick was the 1st to start a long list of donations I am sure you will be singing a different tune.

ATLANTA (AP) -- Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick has teamed up with the United Way and donated $10,000 to assist families affected by the massacre at Virginia Tech, his foundation announced Wednesday.

"When tragic things like this happen, families have enough to deal with, and if I can help in some small way, that's the least I can do," said Vick, who played football at Virginia Tech before joining the Falcons in 2001 as the top overall pick in the NFL draft.

The Vick Foundation is collecting donations from local communities in both Atlanta and Virginia that will be placed in the United In Caring Fund for Victims of the VA Tech Tragedy and the special fund at the United Way of Montgomery, Radford and Floyd counties, which serves the Virginia Tech area.

The foundation said the money will be used to provide help with funeral expenses, transportation for family members and other support services.

Oh we talked about that too. Hopefully he is starting something good and more VT alums will donate. Perhaps some other famous alums will totally eclipse his $5 and compel him to donate even more. I give him credit for doing it but the dollars amount left me saying

This totally off the subject but I would actually prefer to give food to a homeless person rather than a dollar. Some make more than I do in one day of work. I'm one of several hundred that get popped for dollars. A good 50% return on 300-500 people works pretty well.
