Expect to see a lot of shotgun

Dak seems most comfortable throwing from the shotgun. And that's also the formation that you run the read option from. I expect to see a lot of that formation and read option play action. Read option motion has added benefit of slowing down the pass rush because DE's have to stay home at first. Giants probably have to completely redo their defensive game plan, and don't have much tape on Dak, so that's a small silver lining.

I was watching one of the shows on one of the networks (cant remember which) and IIRC, one of the talking heads said that Dak hasn't taken any 3, 5 or 7 step drop backs.

True/false?

Does it matter?

He did take some snaps from under center in preseason, and did well in those situations. I do agree though that we will see lots more shotgun in week 1.

Run Pass Options can be done from under center. But shotgun will be our friend. Rollouts and bootlegs as well I hope.

Romo and Staubach loved the shotgun too.

All of Dak's passes in the preseason was either from shotgun or PA, can he drop back from under center and pass at all at this point?
It's crucial that he gets comfortable doing it as fast as possible cause we would be gimping our running game by being in shotgun to much

Alfred Morris ran for 1600yards his rookie year mostly out of pistol/shotgun. I don't think being under center has much to do with how well you can run in a offense.

Looks like Dak can play either way to me he did do a lot of shotgun formations in college though and broke all kinds of records and we have been running the shotgun a lot for years

As mentioned, I really don't think there will be that much more shotgun than usual.

Exactly. We already run a ton of Shotgun. This is a Shotgun league. The years of I formation HB dive up the middle 20 times a game, have been long forgotten.

Dak's footwork and dropbacks have been very solid so far and his bootlegs and play fakes have been tremendous.....I see no problems with taking snaps under center

Context: That was mostly read option with RG3 at the time. I dont know if we want to craft our offense around that for only 6 weeks, or try and give Prescott formal drop-back experience.

My point is QBs don't have to be under center to have an effective running game in the NFL.

He literally attempted 1 pass from under center that was not a play action, and that was the redzone back shoulder to Butler (1 read).

Yep. They eventually implemented more spread packages for Weeden. I expect them to do the same for Dak. That's the last time I'll mention those two together, btw. I promise.

Also, I've always been a fan of the shotgun HB Draw so that's a plus.

Im 100% looking forward to the read option with Dak and Zeke. And if the preseason is any indication our play calls are going to be more dynamic as well.

Yes, the shotgun is his comfort zone for sure.
Vs Seattle it was nearly 90%

If you watch any game or highlight reels of Zeke at Ohio State you will see how many of his runs game from the shotgun. It was so many that I became concerned that he wouldn't be as effective running from the I formation.

I don't know how many times we will run from the gun but Zeke seemed very comfortable with running this way.

In a gimmicky offense the league figured out a season later

I would assume so. Something like 3/4 of NFL dropbacks are out of shotgun formation.

You see it a lot everywhere.

Alfred Morris still rushed for almost 1300 yards the season later. As you say, after the league figured it out.

But they where not running nearly as much put of shotgun after the zone read gimmick stopped being effective

If that was the case, why didn't the Deadskins run better in 2013 than 2012? According to you, running out of the shotgun offense isn't as effective as QB being under center.
