All the people asking Jerry to give Mike a new contract now will be the same people melting down this message board telling Jerry to fire him immediately and that he was stupid for giving him a new contract if for some reason we don't win the super bowl. Just stop.
You just joined, yet you're already talking smack? Just stop.

I’m not necessarily disagreeing that Jerry should or will do this, but I find it funny that there was a thread on here a while back saying that week 1 was a must win and if we lose our first game Mike could be fired and now after two games he is getting an extension.
I wouldn't give him an extension yet. But will Jerry in the next few weeks?

McCarthy had a terrible start to his tenure in Dallas. The analytics thing that turned out to be total BS. Handing the offense over to KM and being hands off. Mike Nolan was hand picked by McCarthy and was one of Dallas' worst defensive coordinators. The constant penalties and sloppiness.

That bad first impression has stuck around. This year has been different but its only been 2 games. Right now I would hope that they could keep McCarthy and Quinn around for 5 years but things change. Let's see how this year plays out.

Just like Dak, McCarthy needs to wait out the entire season. A good regular season is huge and important, but when push comes to shove it's all about the playoffs IMO. Most likely if we make an NFC Championship game and definitely if we make a SB I take care of both. Otherwise it's just another season of promise where we didn't get it done when it matters and if that is the case they both play out their deals next year and in MMs case a "one and done" means I likely move on after the season unless there are extenuating circumstances that cause me not to.

Lets just let the season play out. As others have pointed out, it's not just BigMac. Quinn plays a role too. But BigMac is responsible for the whole. I'm impressed by how ready he had this team in week1. This despite no preseason for many of the starters.

Most media outlets, whether it be mainstream NFL or various you tube channels considered McCarthy as the 4th best coach in the NFCE and a drag on the team. Same goes for radio stations. Some even referring to him as an idiot. I hope that's been put to rest. He had this team ready from the onset. The Giants head coach, Dabbles, or whatever his name is, did not. Clearly did not. Moreso for week 2 against the Jets. They were outcoached and outplayed on every level. Everyone thought the Jets were going to ground and pound the Cowboys. That flew right out the window before halftime.

I seriously doubt he'll go into next year as a lame duck. He'll either get an extension or fired, but we won't know until the season plays out.

Jerry would be a fool not to resign Coach Mike McCarthy for more years as the Cowboys head coach. McCarthy did it Jerry's way the first 3 years in Dallas by allowing Kellen Moore to be playcaller/O-Coordinator. After 2 weeks of Coach McCarthy's new Texas Coast Offense in 2023, it's clear as day Jerry was wrong to neglect Mike McCarthy to be playcaller and install his advanced version of the West Coast Offense. The Texas Coast Offense is awesome and likely the missing ingredient needed to help our Offense help our Defense make long and deep runs into the playoffs.
The fact that we again wasted time with Jerry having to have HIS guy there is beyond infuriating. Kellen Moore held this offense back. I dont care what the stats say. His need to throw the ball and show off at the detriment of the team and putting his QB in horrible situations will not be missed. Hes doing the same thing in LA. I recall some posters here saying "Wait until you see him with a real QB". Yup. 0-2

Exactly, and, if anything, what he's done so far with Herbert actually proves that Dak Prescott is a much better QB than people thought. Prior to Moore, people were calling Herbert an elite QB. Now, in part because it is making Dak look good what is happening with Herbert, the goalposts are shifting with regard to Herbert saying he's the next "Phillip Rivers". To which I say rubbish and it shows that, as with most QBs, if you give Dak a play caller like Mike who knows how to use Dak's strengths to harness the team in the best way possible, then Dak can be one of the best QBs in the league.

I want to see how this season ends up before we extend him.

Contrary to popular believe Jerry hates firing coaches. After this season Mike will effectively be a lame duck coach with one year remaining on his deal. The logical thinking was that to get an extension you had to wait until the playoffs and see what happens then.

This is Jerry we are talking about. Don't rule out an extension in the regular season. A win against 49ers in week 5 and I could see it happening.
I would wait until we get past division round in the playoffs , but I am not Jerry , LOL

The season has to play out, but a few things….

-There was once a time when MM could possibly be flushed for Quinn. Can’t see that happening any longer.

-It’s been a long while since I’ve had faith in the staff….to the point where maybe we could actually outcoach the opponent as opposed to being the better team on paper but outschemed.

When was the last time you saw a Dallas game and you honestly felt as if the coaching was what won it for us? It’s felt more like that lately than in forever…since before Jerrys hand-picked puppet arrived.

-This years Cowboys may not win it all, but if and when they get beat it’ll be because they just got beat….not because they weren’t good enough or not prepared.

Heard a stat this morning….there’s one team that has averaged 25 points a game and hasn’t turned the ball over, but are 0-2. Kellen Moores Chargers.

Run the ball, control the clock, and keep the opponents defense on the field and yours on the bench is a very underrated strategy. I think we are more about that with MM running the offense, which is much closer to the 2016 model under which our QB can do well.

They are finally good enough, but we still need plenty of luck.

IF they keep rolling through SF and Philly games and are 5 - 1 over the next 6 games. you have to give him extension for at least 3 more years to see if he can get the TexasCoast offense to help us get to superbowl.

I think McCarthy deserves a new contract post season, and he needs to be a package deal with DQ.

DQ is for sure a bigger problem. For Coach Mac, the dollars only need to match what he’s asking. With DQ you have a head coach caliber guy who will have plenty of teams seeking him if defense continues to dominate. He also has a great bond with his players which is more bad news. Hard to replace that leadership, and teams will want him even more. Al Harris is the only guy on those sideline cam videos that seems to have similar bonds.
