Sometimes, txstar is a tough sell...but he's a strong fan of our Cowboys. ;)

Even if sometimes blowing on and polishing a mirror before looking...
Another's difference in perspective is weightless and therefore an illogical nothing to be burdened by.

I test drive cars before I buy them. I have high hopes for the car, but must see the performance before i can intelligently determine their potential.

So too the draft has built in high hopes. Unless your GM makes a comment after the draft telling the world his mindset going into the draft was this was to fill out special teams.

However, I'd like to see these guys in battle before I suggest they are able to take over for anyone who was here before. Doesn't mean I am not filled with hope. But I temper that with the knowledge cornerback and safety are difficult positions to man, even for seasoned pros.

Wait and see ain't sexy. But, time will tell.

i would not tell your significant other...

Hat tip to @adbutcher.

You may have noticed...I fancy myself a wordsmith. But up until now the word that collectively best described this year's draft class has escaped me. I've alluded to it; I've said things like "a certain attitude about them" and "a youthful energy" all the while describing my way around a word that somewhat encompasses all of that: exuberant.

Granted, their shared qualities as players don't end there. There is also confidence, intelligence, bravado (not the arrogant variety, but convinced), and focus that just seems to permeate off everything they say and do.

Now, perhaps I'm getting way ahead of myself on patting these kids on the back and certainly you could point to last year's draft success as a potential accelerant to those feelings, but at the same time there is a side of me that says, "screw it! So what if they don't ever meet your expectations. You are a Cowboys fan; you deserve to love your team again and not just parts of it."

Can we be honest? Most of us were thrilled to see Carr, Claiborne, Church and Wilcox go. Are concern was the massive hole that was left in the secondary. That led many of us to believe they were handcuffed to addressing the secondary first. And then they didn't, opting to address the quickly diminishing pass rusher position instead.

As we all know now, that proved to potentially be genius, as the Cowboys were able to add not just talent, but talent that seemingly fits what Marinelli wants to do. They fit this locker room, the physicality, athleticism, and skillset requirements like a glove.

Again, too soon to tell if this yields immediate returns, but next season and beyond is looking better than it has in 10 years.

Thoughts?

youth exuberance, but wonderful prose as always

Seems to be a bit strong for a difference in perspective, but you are free to believe your opinion has an impact.
"Epic fail" in the context I used it is a description of your wordsmanship, not a state or condition earned by your fandom. Certainly, it's fun to watch this team come together but don't go counting your eggs before they hatch. My opinion is but one man's opinion and it's impact is the same as anyone's... even the exuberant ones. :D

You are correct in believing your opinion carries the same weight as other's, which further suggest that quantity not quality should in turn carry the most weight.

Why can't I start new topics?

BTW - I will miss Wilcox hitting like a truck.

You know what Wilcox misses? Runners in the open field, that's what?
Dude, definitely failed geometry class because he can't get an angle to save his job.

He changed direction like a truck too. His angles were,um, somewhat less than stellar.

However, when he finally got everything lined up correctly and the runner wasn't already by him... there was a significant collision sometimes.

You used it correctly, Bro.

A wordsmith is much like a blacksmith... you can put together some impressive pieces that are very useful (like a good long sword).

On the other hand, some peices, like chainmail, are awfully repetitive, and while they can be quite impressive to look at and will seem very protective at first glance... one good point can penetrate it and render the entire garment useless.

 Those that have a different perspective, you dismiss because why? You can't possible ever be wrong?

Merely having the upper hand is not the goal: truth is. Nevertheless, logical fallacies hide the truth; so pointing them out is very useful.

I agree about being on the cusp of greatness. Just not certain it will be this season. But unless there is a catastrophe on the horizon, I believe this team will post multiple championships in the next 6 years. My feeling is three.

On that, you and I agree.

Not to rain on anyone’s parade and while I agree there are grounds for optimism let’s just tap the brakes here.

To understand why I say this lets go back to the end of the 2007 season.

We just went 13-3 and lost our only playoff game (sound familiar?)

We had Romo, Witten, Ware, Ratliff, Owens, Newman and decent OL and many nice complementary players.

Definite grounds for future optimism there.

But how many championships did we win, hell how many playoff games did we win in the following years????

In addition the following year we went 9-7 and missed the playoffs which is a pattern we’ve continued with to this day (good/great regular season followed by disappointing season).

So for all those totting up the number of SBs they expect us to win in the next few years remember 2007.

Also let’s not forget the people in charge in 2007 are still in charge.

Let’s see if they’ve learned anything.

I never said I dismissed your perspective; I'm just not "burdened" by it. As far as I'm concerned, there is no right or wrong perspective, only one that is more depressing than the other.

Interesting analogy. But considering the Op was more about my personal perspective, I see the op as a wheel and I intend to ride that optimism through the season.

Optimism and pessimism. Opposites of the same coin. Karma.

So why am I taking a wait-and-see approach about the 2017 team while remaining optimistic? Weird.

That's what we call cautiously optimistic. Ordinarily, that's the hat I wear. The difference between this season and seasons past I think is Dak, Zeke and overall youth. It may not happen this season, but I believe this team is going to be great again soon.... dynasty great.

Match that with a couple good seasons without injury...
