FEATURED FA agent thread

Not sure how we'll employ the linebackers if we get Neal. It would be interesting to see. Since he's more of a safety, I would expect Neal to be out there in one of the linebacker spots in the nickel or dime.
Reports are they want LVE outside. So would be interesting

Sime of it should be similar to how we used Wilcox in subs in 2014. With the exception that he will probably have some man coverage responsibilities with TE'S and HB's. As well as blitzing

Right. Whether he's at strong safety or linebacker, I'd expect that. Essentially, it seems like if we get him to play linebacker, our base might be more of a 4-2-5, but he gives us some flexibility to consider it a 4-3. We would definitely need to keep him clean at WLB because at his size, he's not going to be able to regularly handle offensive linemen being in his way on running plays.

I would think LVE would be in the middle. When we were supposedly interested in Perryman, it made sense for LVE to shift to weakside and Jaylon to strongside. I think if we get Neal, he would be weakside, LVE middle and Jaylon strongside.

Even if we were to cut Jaylon, I think Neal would play weakside. Not sure we'd want LVE at strongside.

Position wise he is still considered a S. His role here would be the same as it was in Atlanta (if what's reported is true). He'll play a SS position on run downs where we may have a 4-3-4 on the field, likely with Wilson at FS. In Nickel he will move into more of a rover LB position and Wilson will slide to SS. We haven't used this type of player properly since Williams. And even Williams we still played as a traditional SS. Wilcox was close, but his role was basically just sit back and hit WR's coming across the field.

That would be fantastic
I think it would be the opposite. Smith seemed to be a good fit for this scheme. He's a fast linebacker who needs to be kept clean. He's not the type that can consistently take on linemen and win (and consequently, he spent a lot of time last year trying to go around them). However, if we have poor DTs in front of him then he won't look much different than he did this year.

I think he can play WLB fine if the DTs can slow down blockers (which they couldn't last year) and I think he can be OK at SLB, where he can be used as a blitzer and have to face tight ends more than OL. He is not an MLB.

I want to chalk last year up to a bad fit/bad DTs and give him a chance to show that he can play like he was a couple of years ago, when the line in front of him was doing a much better job of keeping linemen off him. I think players get written off sometimes when their bad play is a direct result of the trash around them.

Maybe expect only what he can do and get the other more capable Lb(s) for what he can’t. Jaylons college highlight reel was a lot of blitzing and backfield pressure. He knows how to rush the passer and he’s fast enough in a straight line when the play is in front of him. Maybe keep him really for Edge roles, blitzing and special teams. If Dallas is not done looking for players to QB pressure and or sack, keep Jaylon (drop RonDell or Anae - who I can’t find any elite trait except “effort”) and then get a least two LBs with versatility and football intelligence to replace Jaylon (who had neither).
I have thought he should be a 3/4 OLB the whole time. Pin the ears and get the ball.

I don't see that, especially with the other safeties we're trying to sign. I think the plan is to have Wilson at SS, Kazee/Hooker at FS and Neal at WLB. So our base alignment would essentially have three safeties, two corners, two linebackers and four linemen on the field (actually a 4-25), if we're counting Neal as a safety despite him being considered the WLB. Our nickel would be three corners, three safeties, one linebacker and four linemen (which is a dime), again counting Neal as a safety.

I think the thought process is that Neal can play linebacker while providing safety-type coverage skills, not that he can replace one of the safeties. I think in today's more pass-happy league this makes sense as long as you are not losing much against the run by having a 211-pound safety at WLB.

Im just going by how he used before and the leak that Dallas was considering him as a S. If they are, then its likely he will have the same role he did in Atlanta

Maybe, but I thought the talk on him for both the Jets and Cowboys was about playing him more at linebacker. I think he could easily be seen as a shift player, where sometimes we bring in an extra linebacker and he shifts to the strong safety role.

Of course, I'm putting too much thought in this when he'll probably end up a Jet.

Oops, and just like that, I'm wrong. Neal signed with us.

The last leak I saw was we were looking at him as a S and the Jets as a LB. Ill see if I can dig it up

And now Dix is saying LB lol. Maybe it will be clear on way or the other when they make an official announcement

I like Golladay but damn.....either way though he should be great for Daniel Jones.

Golladay, Barkley, Engram, Slayton......not bad.
Was just telling my Giants fan co worker that Golloday will make life so much easier because Slayton wont be asked to be a #1 and Shepard wont be asked to be a #2. That could mean a world of difference for Jones. Cooper/Diggs Effect
