It probably is what you say it is. But sometimes people who are already diehard fans of a team just don't usally fly the colors and when they finally have something to cheer about, they take a leap to wear something they normally would not get caught dead in (style wise or for whatever reason).
I have a neighbor who bleeds Ohio State scarlet and grey, yet he never wears their gear as normal attire. The guy flys to half their games each year. When they made it to the title game (vs Florida) a few years ago, he flew an OSU flag and even sported a ball cap one day. Same thing happened with a Texas tech fan two blocks down when they busted into the top 10 two years ago. They were not even remotely fair weather fans. I work with a Saints fan of 25+ years who had a Saints pin on yesterday. It's not his style to wear sports stuff, but yesterday he made an exception. Good for him.
