I can believe that Flo had problems early in the year and it seems like later it was Columbo always getting the penalties

Number of false starts for our OL, 17 games (including playoffs)...

2) Flozell Adams, 10

3) Leonard Davis, 2

4) Andre Gurode, 1

5) Kyle Kosier, 0

I love when perception doesn't meet reality. Raise your hand if you knew our biggest false start offender in '07 was none other than Marc Colombo, and NOT our Pro Bowl LT who many can't wait to replace.

now now - facts are NOT important when people can sound clever (if only to themselves) when citing "false start flo" to kick up the giggling.

Who is too say Free may end up being better than Flo?

So after T.O.'s contract runs out, and we choose not to resign him are you going to be the guy asking, "who is to say Hurd may end up being better than TO?"

I don't see any reason to believe Free will be near the player Flo is.

Let me ask you how much time do you spend at Valley Ranch? Coaches see these guys day in and day out. I don't know how well Free will do if he takes over the job but we sure as hell did not draft him to sit on the bench for his career. He will enter his 2nd season are we never to replace a player? Just pay him what he wants right? Dallas like other teams are faced with having to make these tough calls and Dallas like many others will turn to the youth they have drafted. As for the TO comment, Hurd was not a highly regarded prospect to begin with I would expect Dallas will look for a Vet FA or a highly thought of prospect to one day replace TO.

How would their salaries compare?

Adams - $5,006,240 salary - $7,006,240 cap hit
Columbo - $5,006,240 salary - $3,006,240 cap hit

apparently their actual salaries for this year were exactly the same lol.

I just don't see what Colombo's false starts have to do with Flo. Colombo is younger, cheaper and not a free agent. If Colombo was a free agent and would cost us 9 Million to franchise or would draw the same interest that Flo is bound to, most would say we could find a younger, cheaper replacement on the roster, draft or free agency.

That's true but no team takes a guy in the 4th round and says, this guy will be my LT of the future. If it works out, great, but you can't expect him to be nearly the player Flo is. I would imagine a team like Dallas, who is close, would be taking a big risk letting Flo go. I understand it may not be possible salary wise to resign Flo, but without him, we may have some problems (See Torrin Tucker 2005)

My example with TO was extreme, I should have mentioned that Stanback (another one of those great 4th round picks) may be better.

And many felt the Free was a steal in the 4th rd. I don't know how he will do but I do know the coach’s see these players and I think that plays into the choices a team makes. If they felt Free could not do the job or was not ready then I think Dallas would have just franchised Flo and tried to work a deal out.

Having seen him filling in during pre-season for an injured Adams I was impressed how then a rookie Free was able to handle the job going up against 1st team players. Having said all this I would like to see Dallas work a deal out with Flo that both parties can live with but sorry I don't think Flo is irreplaceable

I guess we would have to look at holding penalties, rushing yards and sacks allowed to determine if it was worth the 4 million dollar disparity last year and if we tagged him at 9 million this year.

Some of Colombo's penalties were when the entire offense moved before Gurode snapped the ball (see the playoff game, for example). Because the right tackle is closest to the referee, he's the one named. But it could have been any of the other players -- and it actually was Gurode's fault in those cases.

I think McNeil went before we picked in the 2nd, but just by a couple of picks so it's conceivable that we could have traded up. But yeah if we had of picked up Cromartie and McNeil that draft then we'd be in better shape. Of course it's all just hindsight, but still.

10 false starts WOW almost 1 every two games, now tell me how many sacks he gave up... I hate the flse starts but when u have Mario Williams, Strahan, Usi, and other top Ends and LBs blitzing sometimes u jump but 10 in 16 games vs giving up maybe 5 sacks all year I'll take that.....

Flo is an All pro and if u guys think Mc or free is as good u guys are kidding urselves ( even though I hope they are then we can save alot of Money)

Then again maybe we can sign a former 1st round bust who got hurt and never really got a solid chance to play ala Columbo and be a steal for us....

I had an idea it was close because Colombo struggled later in the season with it so did I know he was higher no. I knew they where close to each other. Also want to note Colombo does not make 7+ million a year either

I wonder if Tony might be too quiet at the line...seeing as how both tackles struggle with false starts.

Just an idea...

McNeill did not have a very good year in his sophomore season. He needed help a lot of the time.

Flo gave up 3.5 sacks this year which is among the lowest of all Left tackles
