They are a lot of fun.

How's this 4 round mock with trades? Lock me in for this Jerry. According to Fanspeak, the trades will be pouring in! There is so much more studying to do, there is no need for me to do more than 3 or 4 rounds at this point, as I haven't seen more than 75 or so players play with my own eyes.

11: R1P11 QBCARSON WENTZ NORTH DAKOTA STATE
41: R2P10 DTAUSTIN JOHNSON PENN STATE
42: R2P11 OLBNOAH SPENCE EASTERN KENTUCKY
67: R3P4 CBWILLIAM JACKSON III HOUSTON
72: R3P9 WRWILL FULLER NOTRE DAME
98: R4P3 RBKENYAN DRAKE ALABAMA
104: R4P9 OLBDEION JONES LSU
106: R4P11 TEJORDAN LEGGETT CLEMSON

I'd take it.

I personally think Doctson is a better WR than Williams, and Booker is a better all around workhorse back vs McFadden. I think they're both day 1 starters.

Also, either Sanchez or Boddy-Calhoun would be the day 1 #3 CB, which is practically a starting position in today's NFL.

First, let me say I wasnt trying to crush the mock.
Fan speak and other trade enabled drafts make it hard not to trade down. But trading down often gives you a weird unreal draft class.
I did it a couple hundred times last off-season:)

Your class has very good depth and longer term growth potential as you'd expect stacking up picks in the top 100 but outside the elite group.

Doctson probably is better than TWill but he's not healthy and doesn't know the offense and doesn't block as well. Once he gets healthy he has to regain strength and stamina and all that.
Dallas probably wouldn't start him over TWill in 2016 tho 2017 TWill would likely be gone and he runs with position.

Booker... See above. DMC is starting next year unless injured. DMC can be trusted to block and his running is of ZERO ISSUE. There is this weird thought he is just some spare but that's complete garbage. He was the leagues 4th leading rusher starting 10 games. Dallas isn't bumping DMC even if they did draft Elliot. The 2nd RB will get more snaps than the guys last year if they trust them but this coaching staff is very reticent to make changes.
Booker, like Doctson, would get that chance in 2017 if DMC didn't want another cheap deal and why would he coming off a season where he finally lived up to his physical traits.
Garrett was hesitant to promote DMC over Randle... can you imagine how he will feel about a rookie?

And no, I do not think either of those CB can be the 3rd CB day 1. Not by design. Perhaps by injury.
They'd almost certianly just move BJones there first and let him play hybrid safety/slot. --may be his long-term future anyways. .
Sanchez had major struggles at OU at times. He competes but he isn't ready for day 1 NFL action.
Neither guy excites me but both are decent picks for long term return.
If NFL teams believed those guys were capable of playing CB3 day 1 they will be drafted higher than round 3.
If Dallas loses both Mo and Carr they gotta make bigger plays than R3 guys.
CB has become critical in this league.

It does make me smile with this fixation with the idea of “value”.

If you think a player can develop into what you want, you take him especially when picking a QB.

If we pick Wentz at 4 and he turns into a pro bowl QB what’s going to happen?

Is the league going to deduct wins from us because he wasn’t a value pick at 4?

Well the whole idea is to get as much as you can for as little cost as possible. Now, I know that getting cute in the draft is very risky. It just depends on how confident you feel in a prospect falling to a certain spot is.

Let's say you get Player A at pick 4. Depending on who is picking after us, who has enough ammunition to move up (and if that organization is one that takes risks moving up for a player), and how strongly you feel about needing to come out of the draft with that player, you could potentially trade down, get Player A still, and then have an extra pick or two to get Player B and Player C, why wouldn't you?

Would you rather have Player A, or Player A, B, and C? It's pretty simple really.

It all depends on how strongly you believe that player will fall.

At this point, I don't see Wentz going in the top 10. That could all change though, depending on need, the Senior Bowl, the Combine, etc.

It's calculated risk and taking a gamble. I am of the belief that you go into the draft with an abundance of scenarios you're willing to put into motion.

Very solid points. The thing about these CBs though is that this draft class is so deep in regards to CB. There are so many guys this year that have the potential to be very good starting CBs. I really would have liked to get better options there but went with WR/RB instead.

As you say it's a gamble as you might not get player A especially as we talking QB here. They're always in demand.

I don't want to have another 2009 draft.

Traded down to 12 (New Orleans) and got their 2nd, 3rd, and 4th round picks. Then traded 34 to the Bears for their 2nd, 4th, and 5th.

1) A'Shawn Robinson, DT, Alabama
2) Josh Doctson, WR, TCU
2) Devontae Booker, RB, Utah
3) Zack Sanchez, CB, Oklahoma
3) Briean Boddy-Calhoun, CB, Minnesota
4) Brandon Doughty, QB, Western Kentucky
4) Blake Martinez, LB, Stanford
4) Yannick Ngakoue, DE, Maryland

I'm so torn because I know that Dallas has multiple needs that could be met with that first-round pick.

We need a powerful DT, and Robinson could play both the 1-tech and 3-tech spots.

I could also see securing the QB of the future with that No. 4 pick, adding a big-time defensive back or receiver or running back or linebacker or other DL, or even finishing our offensive line with Tunsil (my least favorite option because I think the need is lesser).

I think we have so many spots that are badly in need of upgrading that we can pretty much choose from several BPAs and get someone that improves this team. Of course, that might change in FA.
