Irvin played 23 snaps against San Francisco. Maybe, just maybe, he is not as big a part of their defense as you think he is.

you mean the same niner team that ran 58 plays? you mean the same game where the niners failed to get 10 yrds on 7 of their 13 drives? and only had 2 drives over 6 plays? That game?

If you say so. I thought for sure we would go OL heavy after deciding Colombo and Davis needed to go and amazingly, we did not.

I learned long ago not to try to apply common sense to how we draft players.
Personally, I won't bark if we grab Yankey, Richardson, Jackson, or Dozier early.

I certainly won't swear if Mike Evans is there in the 1st and we do take him.

If the projections are right and we have 3 Comp picks for 11 total picks I expect 6 to 7 of them are on Defense and the early picks focused there.

I don't like the OLB depth past the first 5 guys or so, that's why I go early on OLB.

What's it going to be then, eh?

Irvin played fewer snaps than Clemons or Avril against New Orleans in the divisional game. Not by a lot, but definitely fewer.

I guess that 90% was earlier in the season. Wait, he was suspended too. Darn it.

Anytime you want to just simply back off your statement that was pretty much false, feel free.

I agree with the OL and OLB thing as well.

I just learned what we want and what the team ends up doing are usually not in congruence.

As far as I think we are going, we are probably just as likely to go the WR route since Austin will be gone. We have been scouting 2nd-3rd round types at WR so far and it might just continue.

I have a hard time believing that we devote all the premium picks to defense in Garrett's final year. Just don't see it.

By the way, the main thing I like about Attaochu is that he is sometimes really mean. I think we need some mean and nasty on D.

Watched him his whole college career and yes, he has a great demeanor for a defender. The only issue is I can see us easily figuring him as a speed rusher who "doesn't fit our scheme". If we were still in a 3-4, we would be all over him.

This. Every year (almost) everybody on this board does (mostly) need-based mocks and then draft day comes and all hell breaks loose as TEs, FBs, special teams players, and depth guys start rolling in.

It's unpredictable because you never know if they're going to go for need, or BPA as defined by the staff, or BPA as defined by Jerry, or razzle dazzle or out of the blue.

Ever think maybe just maybe they played more against NO because they played DE? just a thought, NO runs 4 wide alot.

Don't really know why we can only use 3 draft picks, because I think we'll come out with a 1-tech, a 3-tech and a DE, and the 1-Tech will play a role like Red Bryant for the Seahawks. Anyway:

Cowboys sign Henry Melton, DT Chicago Bears.

Cowboys draft Aaron Donald, DT Pittsburgh in the 1st, and Demarcus Lawrence, DE Boise State in the 3rd.

So:
Leo: DeMarcus Ware
1-Tech: Henry Melton
3-Tech: Aaron Donald
5-Tech: Tyrone Crawford
Sam: Demarcus Lawrence
Mike: Sean Lee
Will: Bruce Carter

Henry melton is a 3 tech. The best would be to have melton and donald rotate and both play DT on passing plays.

Like Crawford at the 5. Easley Would be my draft pick for the 5 tech and slide him inside on passing down with Donald. I also like Kelcy Quarles for this same role.

Daquan Jones would be my draft pick for the 1 tech.

Crawford moves to LDE
Draft Will Sutton in the 3rd to play 1 Tech
Draft Aaron Donald in the 1st to play 3 Tech
Restructure and keep Ware.

Bruce Carter at Will
Sean Lee at Mike
Draft Jeremiah Attaochu in the 2nd as the Sam.
Nice. I thought I was alone on the Attaochu bandwagon.

I agree with everything but Richardson and Dozier. Not a fan of those two.

Aaron Donald is way too small to play the 3 tech.. He's listed at 288 and I'll bet you a box of donuts he's at least 5 pounds lighter than that. And... If we keep DWare there is no money to sign Melton, so that isn't realistec as per the guidelines. I believe Nix falls to us (Not Jernigen who I want) and we take him as the big space eating 1 tech. We get Hagemenn in the 2nd. I truly believe that Marinelli is going to experiment with moving one of our big bodies out to End. so:

EDIT: Woops just realized I completely blew where Aaron Donald was playing in your scheme... sorry. I still think he too small tho. I'm tired of seeing our super light Dline just get gassed by halftime and blown out the rest of the game.

Leo: Crawford(?)
1Tech: Hagemenn/Hayden
3Tech: Nix/Bass
5Tech: Selvie/Spencer(?) - Think Spencer is going to take a 2mill/1yr prove it deal.
Sam: Holloman
Mike: Sean Lee
Will: Simms/ Draftee

I wanted a 1 Tech but the rules said you could only use 2 draft picks. I think we'll use three on the DL, but you never know with Jerral Wayne at the helm.

I was hoping there would be a lot of submitted ideas. This is a good thread topic.

Don't like Nix.

The excuse I read here was "well, Alabama is full of NFL players!"

....so is the NFL. If he got dominated against Alabama to the point of faking a leg injury to get taken out of the game, why on this blue marble would I want him in Dallas?

Here's the height/weight info on the Seahawks Front 7 to help people figure out the type of size you might want.

Leo: Chris Clemons 6-3/254
1-Tech: Brandon Mebane 6-1/311
3-Tech: Tony McDaniel 6-7/305 or Clinton McDonald 6-2/297(more common for a 3-Tech)
5-Tech: Red Bryant 6-4/323 or Michael Bennett 6-4/274 *Red is probably one of the bigger 4-3 DE's in the NFL
Sam: Cliff Avril 6-3/260 or Bruce Irvin 6-3/255
Mike: Bobby Wagner 6-1/241
Will: K.J. Wright 6-4/246 or Malcolm Smith 6-0/226

I think this also shows how important it is to have a healthy rotation on the D Line as well as specialists.

Here's the height/weight #'s for our in-house Front 7 candidates:
DeMarcus Ware 6-4/254
George Selvie 6-4/270
Tyrone Crawford 6-4/284
Ben Bass 6-5/294
Nick Hayden 6-4/301
Caeser Rayford 6-7/267
Frank Kearse 6-5/310
Corvey Irvin 6-2/295
Martez Wilson 6-4/256
Everette Brown 6-1/263

Kyle WIlber 6-4/246

Sean Lee 6-2/234
Bruce Carter 6-2/246
DeVonte Holloman 6-2/246
Justin Durant 6-1/228
Barry Church 6-2/218

My submission:
Leo: DeMarcus Ware 6-4/264
1-Tech: Linval Joseph 6-4/323 *Free Agent
3-Tech: Aaron Donald 6-1/288 *Draft
5-Tech: Tyrone Crawford 6-4/284 or George Selvie 6-4/270
Sam: Devonte Hollomon 6-2/246 or Kyle Wilber 6-4/246
Mike: Sean Lee 6-2/234
Will: Bruce Carter 6-2/246

I'm really hoping Anthony Barr or Khali Mack slips to us in the 1st and if one does, that changes Sam and then Hollomon and Carter competing for Will. Would look to add 3-Tech in the 2nd or 3rd rounds, maybe WIll Sutton, Dominique Easley, or Kelcy Quarles.
