Favorite Covers

Covers better than the originals:

1. I love Rock n Roll - Joan Jett and the blackhearts
(Original: Alan Merrill and the arrows)

2. Cum on feel the noize - Quiet Riot
(Original: Slave)

3. I will always love you - Whitney Houston
(Original: Dolly Parton)

All three are my favorites.

I didn't know this wasn't a Stevie Wonder original until a few years ago.

Jeff Beck did it originally. I like his too. More my kind of music. Sounds like it could have been released today. Not sure why it was never on the radio while I was growing up.

I knew of #2 and #3 but genuinely shocked about the Joan Jett song.

I'll add...

When The Levee Breaks - Led Zeppelin
(Original (kind of): Memphis Minnie and Kansas Joe McCoy)

Time Is On My Side - Rolling Stones
(Kai Winding)

Cocaine - Eric Clapton
(JJ Cale)

Istanbul (Not Constantinople) - They Might Be Giants
(The Four Lads)

Hallelujah - Jeff Buckley (and many, many others)
(Leonard Cohen)

Manic Monday - The Bangles
(Prince/Apollonia)

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun - Cyndi Lauper
(Robert Hazard)

Dedicated to the One I Love - The Mamas and The Papas
(The Shirelles)

Miserlou - Dick Dale
(Traditional Greek/Turkish song)

Love Hurts - Nazareth
(Everly Brothers)

People might put me on 'Ignore' for this but I think The Cowboy Junkies did this song a lot better than the original.

And I only know of a few on your list :)

Extra bonus: Joan Jett did a cover of “Crimson and Clover” ... it’s very good ... nice eery flow to it!
Many covered that song.

If you've ever listened to NOFX, it's basically them. I can't remember which member of MFatGGs is not an original member of NOFX but they are the core of the band. They cover EVERYTHING. From show tunes to country. Really fun music to listen to on a road trip. They're a surprise a minute, for sure.
Saw them at Glen Helen in Oct 2015, Scalper. Well NOFX, not MeFirst. Pennywise, Strung Out were other bands there. I had a huge punk phase when I was a teenager/early twenties. A friend of mine plays in a band -- The Pawns -- and is opening for The Distillers
