I have a soft spot for Cuda's too.

I gotta go with the '69 Camaro as well. Shame the new one doesn't hold a candle to it. Which is why I prefer, and got, the new Challenger.

Nice choice, BBGun.

Of course my favorite is a 1967 camaro, but I'm a little biased.

My ride. Nothing special. 350ci., with turbo 350 auto. I'm hoping to add a supercharged LS1/2, with either a 5, or 6 speed manual.

Silverbear, I agree with the 1970 GSX also. My old roommate had a 71 GS455, Stage 1 car, and it was very fast. With lots of torque, it surprised a lot of people from stop light to stop light. I'm not sure if you have heard of him, but there was a guy somewhere in Texas that had a 1970 Buick GS, Stage 2 car. Very rare apparently, and super fast. He clock mid-high 10s in the quarter mile at one of the muscle car nationals at Ennis years ago.

I also like the 69 Dodge Chargers as well. A friend of mine has a very clean 69, 440, 4-speed car. The car was blue, but he painted it black, and put the tunnel ram back on. As big, and heavy as this car is, it's extremely fast. It will definitely plant you in the seat through all 4 gears, and scare the hell out of you, if you aren't used to riding in fast cars.

Years ago, he actually made one of our friends pee his pants, lol. Anyway, here are a few pics from Pinks all out, a few months ago. His car didn't make the finals, but the host of Pinks went crazy when he pulled up to the line, and did his burnout.

In no particular order.

  • 1973 Corvette Stingray
  • 1968 Camero SS
  • 1979 Pontiac Firebird
  • 1985 Monte Carlo SS
  • 1985 IROC-Z
  • 1986 Buick Grand National

There are others high up on my list, but these are my personal favorites.

Not muscle car by true definition but every teen I knew wanted one.

BS, it damn well was a muscle car! My fav was the 86' model. Maybe it didn't have a V8 (had a V6), but it would spin the tires right off the damn thing! The 86' Grand National was the last of the true muscle cars.

It was featured in a cult movie called Better Off Dead, so that's when I more or less fell for it. Plus, I was born in '67 (reaches for the Geritol).

I guess somebody ought to mention the 1967 or 1968 Z-28 Camaros too, with the DZ302 engine (but they were only available in 4 speed versions, and I prefer a well-built automatic)...

No such thing as 67 Z-28's. And there were only a couple 68 Z 28's made.

The DZ302 was only made for 69 cars.

Oh, my bad, maybe it's the '67 I like then, because the one in Better Off Dead is what I was referring to really. Always loved that car...and the movie too.

It's weird, the first generation Camaro was a great lookin' car, the second generation looked like a fat cigar, the third generation was indeed blessed with some great lines, but an anemic drivetrain, the fourth generation was close to pfugly, but had a much better drivetrain... curiously, the fourth generation Trans Ams looked much better than the Camaros did...

And now, my first impression of the new Camaros is that they're pretty sharp looking too... seems that every other generation, they get it right... :D

Wrong...

The Z/28 option code was introduced in December 1966 for the 1967 model year. This option package wasn't mentioned in any sales literature, so it was unknown to most buyers. The Z/28 option required power front disc brakes and a Muncie 4-speed manual transmission. The Z/28 featured a 302 cu in (4.9 L) small-block V-8 engine, 3" crankshaft with 4" bore, an aluminum intake manifold, and a 4-barrel vacuum secondary Holley carburetor of 780CFM. The engine was designed specifically to race in the Trans Am series (which required engines smaller than 305 cu in (5 L) and public availability of the car. Advertised power of this engine was listed at 290 hp (216 kW). This is an under-rated figure. Chevrolet wanted to keep the horsepower rating at less than 1hp per cubic inch, for various reasons (e.g. insurance and racing classes). The factory rating of 290 hp occurred at 5300 rpm, while actual peak for the high-revving 302 was closer to 360 hp (268 kW) (with the single four barrel carb) and 400 hp (298 kW) (with optional dual-four barrel carbs) at 6800-7000 rpm...

...Only 602 Z/28s were sold in 1967. The 1967 and 1968 Z/28s did not have raised cowl induction hoods as was optional on the 1969 Z/28s. The 1967 Z28 received air from an open element air cleaner or from an optional cowl plenum duct attached to the side of the air cleaner that ran to the firewall and got air from the cowl vents. 15-inch rally wheels, were included with Z/28s had while all other 1967-9 Camaros had 14-inch wheels.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Camaro_(first_generation)

In addition, they sold over 7000 of the 68 Z's...

The DZ302 was only made for 69 cars.

All Z-28s produced from 67-69 had the 302 engine... Mark Donohue drove one for the Penske team in the Trans Am Series during those years, and dominated that series with it (the Z-28 was created specifically for that series)...

To learn more about those 67 Z's that you claim don't exist, go to:

http://www.1967z28.com/index2.htm

Edit-- further research suggests that the crossram, or DZ version of the 302 was first custom installed on a few 67 Camaros intended for racing just before the introduction of the 68 model year, but did not become commercially available until 68... so you're partially right in your assertion, a DZ-302 67 Camaro Z28 would be very rare indeed...

The early 302s in the 67 were the MO 302s... not sure what that signifies, unless it's just indicative of a single 4 barrel...

You can read more about it here:

http://www.1967z28.com/gallery/gallery.html

Anyway, you could obviously buy a 68 Z with the DZ-302 option, you could probably even find one or two for sale on such websites as Hemmings'...

Like I said, I've been a muscle car fan in general, and a Camaro fan in particular, for a very long time... going on 40 years now... won a few bets with the 67 SS350 that I restored, with guys who insisted that the first Camaro lineup included an SS396 (it was a mid year introduction), and guys who insisted that no 67s came with the high back buckets, the center console or the TH350... my owner's manual settled those arguments... LOL...
