Who is your favorite pre 90's player? I was talking with a client today about the state of the game and we got totalking about some of the greats who played before the REAL big money started to flow. So I thought I would ask.

My all time favorite is Lee Roy Jordan closely followed by Bob Lilly.

It's Staubach for me. pre 90's and all-time #1

After him, in terms of players that I liked the most, it'd probably be Charlie Waters and Larry Cole - not that they were the best players - they weren't - they were just very entertaining. They gave great interviews and I found them to be especially entertaining.

Preston Pearson was a wizard with a screen pass. No Cowboy has done a better job of setting up his blocks. He was pretty amazing in that regard. Very patient. He's not in the top half dozen of the Cowboys best all time RBs, but he was one of the very best when it came to screens.

Staubach, Dorsett and White. Jordan and Lilly were a little before my time.

Roger Staubach was my favorite Cowboy of any time frame. Earl Campbell is my favorite player period. Sorry he wasn't a Cowboy is all.

I find it very hard to believe that I will ever love a player as much as I did Staubach.

I expect to see a flood of Staubach votes. Hey, you're approaching 40,000 posts. Try to make it special.

I'll go Aikman & Irvin. Drafted in 89 & 88 respectively. :D

Ok, I suppose that misses the point, so here's my old time favorites.

Dorsett
Calvin Hill (prior to the WFL of course)
Duane Thomas (head-case? sure, but he produced)
Preston Pearson (what a deceptive talent)
Timmy Newsome (a versatile unsung guy)
Herschel (loved it when we added him both times)

Drew Pearson (loved him ever since he started by returning KO's)
Bullet Bob
lesser known WR's Sellers, Stowe, Parks, Renfro

Everson Walls
Charlie Waters (once he moved to Safety)

Danny White (I felt for him having to follow Roger)
Roger (sure, but no more than Aikman to be honest)
and how about Reggie Collier (guy could FLY!!!)

Harvey, Too Tall & Manster of course

Herschel and Dorsett came immediately to mind.

Too Tall Jones and Jim Jeffcoat come next. I just liked their names.

Preston Pearson was my favorite, as I followed him from college through Baltimore and Pittsburg to the Cowboys.

Of the lifelong Cowboys, it would have to be Bob Lilly though. Great man!

I guess for me Dorsett, Staubach, Pearson, and Dupree on offense and Harvey Martin, Hollywood Henderson, Charlie Water and Cliff Harris on D. Also Too Tall.

Tony Hill! Thrill Hill. Dial 80. Whatever you want to call him. He's the reason I became a Cowboys fan. Some of the fondest memories of my early days as a Cowboy fan were seeing him do his Wings of Victory celebration after he scored. The most underrated wide receiver in Dallas Cowboys history.

Buzz Guy is the bestest player we ever had. He certainly has a cool name.
