Favorite Round 2 Running Back

I'm still trying to figure out why everyone is so enamored with Charles for? One decent year. I guess we have a lot of UT fans here. Slaton is way better than this dude.

When you look at his physical skills they speak for themselves. He really does have it all. I watched a lot of him and saw his speed a quickness destroy defenses.

Hard to say because you don't really know who will slip to the 2nd.

I'd love to see Mendanhall Slip but I don't know that he will.

I think there is a chance that Stewart might because of the injury. If that happens, then it would be like this.

Slaton Nobody gives this guy much due but who ever drafts him, there going to get a real good football player who can step in and contribute immediatly. This guy can play football and he has no Ego issues. Your going to get a player that will play Special Teams if that's what you want him to do. He will be a gunner, if that's what you want him to do. He will field kicks or try to block punts if that is what you ask him to do. I'm telling you guys, this is going to be a valuable player for somebody. On third down, he's going to make plays for you.

I could be happy with Slaton, Forte or Smith if it was round 3.

I like this idea also. I'd love Slaton in the 3rd.

I can see Slaton in the slot catching quick slants, and spreading him out. Remember people we have a fully capable starter in MBIII. We need receivers, db's, and more pass rushers!

When I watch Slaton, I see Priest Holmes in KC or maybe James Brooks is a better example.

I would take Choice, Forte, and Rice over Jones, yes.

There's no one in the late 1st other than us that's likely looking for a RB, so yeah he'll probably go in round 2.

His playing weight this year was right at 220 or so. If he can carry a bit more weight, I think he could be a heck of a FB or Hback. He can catch, he can block, he's a good runner. Not fast but pretty quick. A great 3rd down prospect but if he can get just a little bigger, I think a great FB prospect for our team. He'll never be a crushing lead blocker but he could be a decent lead blocker with skills to get out in patterns and create miss matches on the LBs and safeties. Real smart kid with lots of heart. He's an interesting player. As a running back, he probably fits better in a scheme like Denver's. He's a good cut back runner.

I think he would be a good lead blocker because he can block well in space. In the drills at the combine, it was mentioned that he excelled at getting out on LBs. He's always been a pretty good cut blocker but he would have to learn to develop his techniques a bit more. He's a good runner at the college level, no question. However, I don't know that he will be a good runner at the pro level. He's not fast and he doesn't have a second gear to explode through the hole. He's a guy who really builds speed as he goes and then looks for the cut back lanes. I mean, in the right system, he could be a good RB, perhaps. In a system like Denvers, where they use a zone blocking scheme, he might be a good RB. I don't think he fits a scheme like ours nearly as well because his forte (no pun intended) is not hitting the hole and running to daylight. To be honest, he does remind me a lot of Skip Hicks at UCLA in his running style.

He is very strong in his lower body. He has that V but I would not call him tall and slender, per say. He's a very strong lower body player. For us, because we don't use the traditional crushing FB in our offense, he might work very nicely. Garrett looks for guys who can run the ball a little bit and create mismatches in the passing game from his FBs. This Forte can do. I do think he translates well to FB in our offense, if he can get a little bit bigger. At least, that's my opinion but I'm not alone. Other teams are looking at him as a possible FB or HBack as well.

I guess I lump Felix, CJ, and Charles together with prefernce on order depending on who is ranking them. I think any of the 3 could take a series from MB3 without drop-off once they have acclimated to the NFL. The question for me is whether they could take an entire game---and like most here, I agree that they would not draft them expecting that.

I think Felix could take a game and at some point one of these guys may have to.

That's why as I suggested it may even make sense to draft a Felix, Ray Rice or Kevin Smith as the 2nd RB and then take a CJ or Jamaal Charles as the slot back /kickoff return guy.

We really could use both on the roster.

A lot of guys like CJ and Jamaal Charles but I do not want those guys blocking for Tony Romo on third downs. Youtube clips of Romo being bent over would be a far cry from showing some back in the open field.

I really like Rice, as I'm sure is clear. I believe that Stewart can be a franchise back and possibly, over time, become better then Barber. He may be from a spread offense but he can play football. If Mendenhall fell to us, I would seriously have to consider picking him high. I think he's going to be very good. However, I also think that he needs to share carries because he takes punishment.

There are several backs that I like a lot in this draft. Heck, I would not mind drafting a guy like Slaton in the 4th and trying to sign, or draft late, a RB like Jalene Parmele or Hilliard. I just think that for out needs, we can afford to target with skills that fit what we are looking for and maybe move up a little bit to get him. Honestly, Barber is a really great back IMO. I was rewatching him this weekend and he really is a excellent back. He does a lot of little things that you just don't pay attention to when he's running the ball that makes him very good.

If we can figure out how to get another WR to stretch the field out a little bit more, he can be even more succesful then he was last year IMO. We have a franchise back. We just need to get somebody who can be productive with maybe 150 carries between the back up and the 3rd down back.

I would absolutely love for us to do this. IMO this draft is pretty weak at the top, but there are a lot of very intriguing mid-round prospects who will turn out to be good players.
