MASH comes to mind quickly. i put it away almost as quickly.

Cheers. i WANTED this to win. it was classic. the characters were epic from norm to frasier.

silent classic - night court. i would say this wins by default but i would also say wkrp in cincy had some lines that still slay me.

i swear as god as my witness i thought turkeys could fly.

but if i had to give the nod to 1, i guess it would be close to the one i wanted to win.

frasier.

Anything with a laugh track is immediately out for me. If you have to be told when to laugh, the show isnt as funny as it wants you to think it is. Studies have even shown that people who watched popular sitcoms without the laugh track were significantly less amused. It's used to help pass off dumbed down (2 Broke Girls) or excessively highbrow (Frasier) humor as funnier than it actually is.

Try watching a show like Seinfeld imagining every joke and "funny" moment without a laugh track and you'll quickly come to realize how unfunny so many of them are. In a vaccuum, so much of it is cheap and hollow and wouldn't make most laugh.

That being said, "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" is number one for me, followed closely by "The Office" and coming in a distant third is "Scrubs" (almost purely because I have come to learn it somewhat accurately reflects how off color and ridiculous a hospital setting can be behind the scenes). The outrageousness of It's Always Sunny and the awkwardness of The Office produce humor so much more organically than forced "jokes".

Seinfeld had a live audience...watch some of the bloopers on YouTube.

The IT Crowd

Have you seen Father Ted? Same guy that makes it, one of the finest things ever made for television in my opinion.
In terms of American tele I really enjoyed the first 2 series of Modern Family, not seen any of the third yet.
Has anyone mentioned Fawlty Towers yet?

1a) Beverly Hillbillies (Jed opens up a topless (no hat) restuarant)
1b) Taxi (Jim takes the driver's test, Yellow light- slow down)
1c) Gilligan's Island (Still have dreams of me and Ginger on a deserted island)
1d) I Dream of Jenie (How could Larry Hagman not drool on the set?)
1e) Mash
1f) Hogan's Heroes

One TV series I would like to get the complete set of is Rat Patrol. I remember catching some reruns one year and liked it. Haven't seen that series in a long time.

One series I wouldn't mind watching reruns of is Barney Miller. I didn't particularly care for it back then but I think I might like it now.

Do you even know what Seinfeld is? It is supposed to be that, that is why it is so brilliant.
You've described 3 shows, which show your age, which is the same as I. I'll give ya It's Always Sunny, The Office is ok, and Scrubs is a little better than average.

I Like: It's Always Sunny, Seinfeld, and Curb Your Enthusiasm. IF you are looking for awkwardness try Curb.
