I can respect that he just wants to play ball that's cool. but disrespecting his team the way he has is horrible. every year having your head coach and gm run around franticly not knowing if your gonna come back or not is extreamly arrogant and rude. I have been on the brett favre ban wagon for awhile even when he was sticking his nose in other teammates money i was behind him but now brett is nothing but a lieing cry baby

Rodgers has been in the fold for a while now and before that Hasselback so how much scrambling is going on. How much of it is true I don't know but evidently the Packers have not been overly honest with Brett either. I also don't think this is overly surprising considering rumors about Brett coming back started about a month after the season was over when question started up if GB was in a pinch would he be willing to come back. What is the true story? I guess that depends on who is telling it

I've been as irritated an anyone over the Farve worship the last several years. And yeah I think Favre eats it up many times.

But I fully support the guy if he wants to play on. It seems he's handled this offseason pretty poorly with his on-again/off-again retirement tease. But if today he wants to play again then so be it.

And I think the Packers owe him nothing beyond what they are contractually bound to. I can understand them wanting to avoid feeding the Vikings a QB, so be it. Then send him elsewhere.

This is only a huge fuss because people make it a huge fuss. Let it play out and I think it won't be that big a story at the end of the season.

Good post.

And since you mentioned Aikman, I would throw this out there.

I wonder how people would feel if a healthy Aikman had done the following:

-- waffles on retiring for two or three years.

-- finally retires.

-- hints at wanting to come back just a month or two later, after Jerry already had his promising young replacement lined up and drafted two other QBs.

-- leaks comments to select media about wanting to come back, while secretly calling the head coach and offensive coordinator of the Commanders or Eagles multiple times to see if he can play for them.

Can anyone imagine Aikman doing that?

I can't either.

Easy to say since Aikman's back wouldn't let him play anymore so there was no chance of it happening. Farve wants to play, the Packers say he'll have to be a backup, what's he supposed to do? Hell, I'd be calling around trying to go where I want to go too, so would everyone else in this thread, but, on with the Farve bashing.

If the Packers reinstate him, do the HAVE to play him at QB?

Can't they tell him they want him to be the gunner on the punt coverage team? :D

Jets? No way Favre wins in that division, much less that conference.

I think he'll accept the Bucs trade if he can't scheme his way to Minny. There's no way I'd take a $12 million cap hit and the drama of keeping him in GB if they are convinced he won't start.

I do feel like Ted Thompson deserves a lot of the blame even with Favre's drama queen antics. Has GB made a blockbuster free agent signing or trade since Reggie White? They've definitely lost some descent players to other teams. Randy Moss can't play for all 30 or so teams, but that doesn't mean you just sit around and hope it works out with your current guys. They got lucky that some unknowns (particularly at RB) stepped up last season, but if they remotely even tried to improve over the last 6-7 offseasons, there's no way Favre would think about retiring. Favre has been the only reason that people get excited to watch GB football for quite some time. I could be wrong though...what do u guys think?

I don't know. I think Thompson has put together a very nice young team.

It's hard to question what he's doing.

I think the point is that the ONLY way the Packers could guarantee that he doesn't end up in the division is to pay him.If they don't pay him they could trade him IF he agrees to the trade. They could also outright release him which would pave the way to facing him twice a year. They have no other options. If they pay him then they have to deal with him for the season and that could very well cost them a game or two. They Packers are backed right into the corner and they have little to use to fight their way out. I'm hearing you cowboys2233.

God bless you VTwin, I thought I was losing my mind. :LOL

Not really, but the ignorance of some of these other posters was definitely driving me in that direction.

Other then paying him how can they stop him from going where he wants? It has already been established that he has essentially, a no trade clause. How can they stop him other then by paying him?

That small fact seems to be lost on most here. And if it was really only a matter of money, I bet they'd do it. However, can you imagine poor Rodgers out there on the field, staring back at the sidelines with Favre sitting on the bench, casting him the evil eye?

That's the part that is going to force GB's hand -- they would ruin Rodgers.

But that's exactly the hand that Favre is playing, by applying for reinstatement and saying he's coming to TC. He is calling their bluff.

I agree,I also wonder though, Favre might actually give them their best chance of winning this year. They have high expectations coming off an NFC championship appearance. I understand that they want to see what they have in the kid but there must be some doubt in the organization as to if they should go with what they know since they think they are so close. I think I might be inclined to keep Favre and make it as open a contest for the job as possible. If the kid truly shines in camp and in the preseason then he plays and Favre sits. This way the only hard feelings might be held by Favre since the rest of the team sees that it was a fair contest and the kid deserves to start. If Favre does show he still can beat out the kid then he starts and the team is happy because the man who can best help them get to the Super Bowl is starting. Either way the message is being sent to the team that the best man for the job gets it. The hardest part might be ignoring the fans and the media who are going to make it a circus from the get go.

For all the "love of the game" types, remember all the ex-players that are living with pain for the rest of their lives because of their love of the game. There is a time and place to walk away and still have a reasonable amount of health. Perhaps Favre hasn't yet figured out when that is.

According to PFT:

In addition to the Jets, the Buccaneers have received permission to speak with Brett Favre, according to FOXSports' Jay Glazer.
It looks like the Packers want to move Favre as fast as possible with players reporting to camp late Saturday. Favre would have a better chance to pick up Tampa Bay's offense quickly, while the weapons around him in New York would be superior. We'd cautiously anticipate a deal coming this weekend. Just some friendly advice...

It could be that your antagonistic, overly aggressive style is turning people off to what you have to say, even if what you have to say may be worthwhile at its root.

So far today you've been completely wrong in one thread and completely right in another (this one)... yet your "attack, attack, attack" style is identical in both.

If you keep this up, people will soon be tuning you out in droves, no matter what it is you have to say, and the only ones who will pay you any heed are those who like to get into fights with people.

If you really mean to contribute around here, you may want to adjust your demeanor.

Just my 2 cents.

I would think the quicker it is the better it would be for Farve as well. He will have to learn the plays and get a feel for his targets.

Gruden is not talking to Favre at all per his opening TC PC.

Tired of the speculation. Happy with Garcia.

He's not involved in any trade talk.

Just heard on ESPNews according to Michael Smith that the Packers are looking for a 1ST Round pick for Favre.

HAHA, they really do want to pay him 12 mill to sit on the bench huh?

If Jason Taylor is worth a 2nd, there is no doubt that FAvre is worth a 1st. Will they get it. who knows?

Jon Gruden was just on local TV and was quoted as saying He has no idea where his cell phone was. (direct slap at Brad Childress)

A 38 year old QB that is not totally committed to football is worth a 1st rounder, and the team has to take a 12 million dollar cap hit? Gimme a break.

There is NO WAY they will get a 1st rounder.

You can't compare the Jason Taylor trade to this because it was the Commanders the Dolphins were dealing with and the Commanders have Danny boy leading the charge.

Packers have a very talented team. The key is Rodgers and NOBODY knows how he will perform. I have no idea what to expect. I do think that wtih Rodgers as QB, they still have the best QB in the division.
