I was wondering about the comment that Favre hasn't done anything since 1997. Decided to look up Green Bay's record from 1998 to 2007. Here's what it reveals.

1998...11-5, Wildcard, 0-1
1999...8-8
2000...9-7
2001...12-4, Wildcard, 1-1
2002...12-4, NFC North Champions, 0-1
2003...10-6, NFC North Champions, 1-1
2004...10-6, NFC North Champions, 0-1
2005...4-12
2006...8-8
2007...13-3, NFC North Champions, 1-1

4 Division Championships, 2 Wildcards, 6 double digit win seasons, 3-5 in the Post Season.

Forgive me, but I'd take that over what our team did in that same time span. That kind of nothing is okay by me.

anybody that watched the NFC championship game between GB and the Giants realized that FAvre was done. He was old and cold and let the elements get to him. The last month of that season with GB, FAvre tailed off as he had the years before that. McCarthy and Thompson knew they would not win a championship with Favre at the helm.

The still said Favre could come back even after his tearful retirment. They told him in late May of that year that if he wanted to come back they would make it work. Favre waffled again. During the drama of last offseason, MM asked Favre point blank if he was ready to give a total committment to the Packers and again, Favre waffled. The Packers decided to move on and they should have.

Meanwhile over in Minnesota, Childress keeps calling and begging Favre to come back. He does not care that Favre has shown over the past few months that he was not 100% committed to football but Chilly kept begging anyway. So today they get a guy who has put in no offseason training to speak of, goes to a team where he will have carte blanche to do what he wants to do with no accountability unlike his last season with GB. When you watch FAvre this year, it will be similar to the last two seasons that Sherman coaches the Packers. He will have his way with the offense and will chuck it up with no accountabiltiy.

Rodgers is one of the top QBs in the league right now and if he stays healthy will go to his first pro bowl this year. FAvre will be carted off by game 4 on Espn. Mark it down.

Thats 24/7 for me. I cant stand the loser. And the fact that the media just falls all over and acts like he has never done antyhing wrong or bad just fuels it even more.

I hope he stays healthy enough to throw 30 picks this yr.

0, thats the amount of super bowls he won, the same amount our team won during the same period.

He also set an NFL postseason record with 6 picks in one game.

As for the record and making the playoffs, thats great. They were better than us most of those years. He certainly wasnt the sole reason however.

they don't make the postseason those years without FAvre. Criticize him all you want, but those years he is the one QB that did more with less than any QB in history.

Well, let's all agree on this:

Favre likes the drama.
Favre has a HOF career.
Favre is a mere shadow of himself and is headed toward a big embarrassment this season.

Some quick bullet point thoughts on a smattering of things:

*You can't pin all the attention squarely on the media. The media sticks to things they know are likely to give them stories. The media didn't "camp" outside Troy's house the same way they did Favre's because it wasn't as likely Troy would give them anything to write about. It's like feeding a bird a piece of bread. Give a little piece and they keep coming back. The media are the birds, and Favre keeps giving them bread.

*Ultimately, Favre is entitled to do what he wants and I don't begrudge him of that. It's his life, not ours. I actually liked his quote today about "it's my legacy" and "all I think is what matters" or something like that. He's right. It's easy to throw stones, but he can keep waffling for as long as he'd like.

*With that said, his waffling clearly does not promote a "team" concept. His decision making is squarely about him, and if I'm a teammate I'm a little skeptical about his motives. He's not a bad fella, but he is selfish. It's undeniable. An unselfish Favre either gets to camp on time to end this nonsense and start working with his teammates, or puts out the bulletin that he's coming back but not until camp is over because he doesn't believe his 39-year-old body can withstand a training camp. But all he does is keep the circus going. He may not love the attention, but he does everything he can (seemingly) to keep his name atop the newswire all offseason.

*Lastly, while Favre makes the Vikings better, I think their principles in this whole matter stink. It reminds me of when Clemens signed that deal with New York where he didn't have to go to the road games. You kidding me? When did these sports become tennis or golf? The fact one man can hijack a franchise is ridiculous. But more power to Favre. As long as teams are willing to wait and pay him boatloads of money, why shouldn't he take advantage of it.

Well where do I start, hmm.

I'll start by saying how I feel.

I like many others am tired of hearing about Favre, but I don't *hate* him. Do I think he is attention starved.. I don't know. There's not really enough to draw any conclusions from that. The thing about Favre is, whether he realized it or not by retiring and coming back the media has now taken this thing and ran with it. So whether the attention Favre gets or not is wanted, it's going to happen anyway.

I don't hate the whole yearly Favre saga because of the player. I hate it because I want to hear about other things. I know that me personally, yeah I like attention, but you know what? Most people do, it's natural.

What isn't natural (or maybe it is?) is the media hanging off every single thing he says or does, leave him alone, sheesh.

TL;DR

Favre to the Vikings is going to make the Vikings that much more interesting to watch this year.

I like the HECK out of Favre, but he is number one on the list for throwing an interception during clutch time...

Let's not slip in to Madden FAP time here...

He is what he is...

I don't agree that he will be embarrassed unless the team does worse with him than they did without him. The Jets still had a better season with him even with his injury.

I think John Elway with those late 80s, early 90s Broncos begs to differ.
Brett Favre is one if not The most overrated QB in NFL history. He has done more to lose big games for his team instead of winning big games. I still don't get the hype over why people care so much about whether he plays or not. Montana, Elway, Marino, Aikman wouldn't have got this much coverage if they kept coming out of 'retirement'.

Farve also faded down the stretch the last few years the jets where 8-3 last year and he faded in his last 5 games where he dropped like 10% in acc and 2td's to the toon of something like 9int. I think in his age his body starts breaking down and that he will fade once again

Absolutely correct. AR is on his way to a great career. At this stage of the game, he is far superior to Favre IMO/FWIW, no question about it.

I never think any one player is a sole reason for anything. You know that. The claim was he did nothing since 1997. That's a lot for nothing.

So what are you saying here? If you don't win a SB, you haven't done anything in the NFL?

Aside from the notion that Favre is seemingly trying to keep his name in the news and is hijacking a franchise (the Vikings hijacked themselves), I think all of this is right on target.

Are there 32 QBs better than him? If so Minnesota sure didn't have one of them. I don't mind these guys playing as long as they can. I don't care about his wishy washy retirements. I just enjoy what they bring as far as entertainment in the games and Favre entertains me.

Favre is still a very serviceable and knowledgeable QB. I believe with the Favre signing that the Vikes got a little bit (and potentially a LOT) better.

I'm not taking issue with your view on Farve, Hos, but I have to ask you to clarify it a little for me. :)

I have historically been somewhat of a Farve fan, although I think the announcers take the man love of him way too far. It seems as though the media want the "fruit of his loins" so to speak. LOL

As a Farve fan, can you REALLY say that you don't think he is acting like a teen aged girl, twirling her hair, going "Look at me! Look at me?" LOL As a Farve fan, do you not shake your head at the way he has been a bit of a drama queen and think "Dude, what in the world are you doing?" LOL Seriously? :laugh2:

I'm with you there. I'd take that whole lot of nothing over the whole lot of nothing we've had since 1996.

For some there is just no reason they have to hate. It's what makes sports interesting I suppose.

I'm guessing since a whole lot of teams haven't won a Superbowl during that same time frame it means there are a whole lot of QBs in the league that are nothing but losers who've not done anything.

So really only Tom Brady and Big Ben can be thought of as anything cause they're the only QBs to win more than a single Superbowl lately.
