I disagree. I think other runners would have been tackled, but with Johnson the defense didn't realize how fast he was and took bad angles.

I'm sure his pure speed helped him quite a bit. We can't know for sure if a slower back wouldn't have done the same thing. But if that is the case, it's not impressive to me at all. Speed alone won't get you much at the RB position.

Slight cut back? Heh. Yes, very slight. He basically took a longer stride on his right foot. Other than that, he just ran straight ahead.
True but the explosion is what you can't deny, yea he's fast but the explosion through the whole is what could make him special.

Now that just sounds like hatin right there. Anyway I won't try to convince you I know how it is when your mind is made up but it was pretty impressive to me that in his first game the guy did basically what he was drafted for out of college, be the big play threat. I think we will se alot more of that from him as well as Felix Jones.

I agree. That wasn't a particulary difficult run. I want to see some more where it involves cutting or catching the ball out of the backfield. I don't think anyone questions his 4.2 speed...that is all he did there.

I want to see his other carries...

What the hell, dude?

Sorry if it upsets you that I wasn't impressed with him running straight forward. Yes, he's fast. Great. That won't get him much (evidenced by his 11 yards on 5 other carries). The long run was more poor play by the defense than impressive run by Johnson.

I have an idea.....

let's do a preseason and even regular season collection of the stats for

Felix
Mendenhall
CJ
Charles
Stewart
Rice

These were the 6 guys that were debated heavily, since we all realistically knew DMac was out of reach, well 95% of us did anyway.

Honestly, I was pretty underwhelmed by McFAdden's debut.

His line was blocking well for him, but he slammed into the hole so fast that he looked like a glorified Julius Jones. He got the 4 yards that were there because his line made them, and nothing more. Will be interesting to watch and see if they get him to develop some patience.

It was a joke, but you are rather well known for making up your mind on a guy and never conceding the least bit of ground. But you certainly aren't the only one around here.

I've conceded that I was wrong about Jenkins and Felix. Both have looked much better than I thought they would. With Felix it was more of a problem with drafting a "complementary" player, but based on how the draft fell, it was probably the best decision.

As for Chris Johnson, this clip is just a perfect example of the previous debate. Yes, he has great speed. We can all see that. But is there more than just that speed? This doesn't show anything more.

Like theo and others said, we knew Johnson could run through a seam. The question is how a sub-200 lb RB will do when he has to take a beating over the course of a long season, get three yards from a run when the play is only blocked for three yards, push the pile, etc.

Personally, I doubt he can do all that, and I wouldn't want such a limited player with a top-25 pick.

Thats a good idea.

Ray Rice 6 carries 12 yds and 4 catches 17 yards

Jammal Charles 4 carries 13 yards 1 catch 12 yards

Felix Jones 6 carries 32 yards and 2 catches 29 yards

CJ 6 carries 77 yards and 1 catch 13 yards 1 TD

Mendenhall 7 carries 34 yards 0 catches

Couldn't find Jonathan Stewart.

It showed him scoring a TD isn't that what it is all about. Putting points on the board something he has been doing his entire career. This is only his first game in the NfL and he did what most say he only did because he went to ECU. This is only a taste of more to come eventually you will relent.

Yes, some people are impressed by scoring a TD, regardless of whether the run itself was impressive or not.

CJ scored a TD and had a run of 66....so that means he went 11 yds on 5 carries the rest of the game.

BTW

Hart 2-20, 2-21
Forte 7-25, 3-10
Rice 6-12, 4-17

Stewart was a DNP....I think he is either not signed or nicked up.

Tennessee ran for like 350 yards in their preseason game.

theogt...coming from a non-cj fan....so this comment is expected. That's cool, don't even let the guy enjoy one td run without finding something negative.
